I think that the Darkhold is one of worst dungeons ever created in any MMO. In no way does it encourage a variety of strategies, rather it seems to encourage skipping all the content the developers spent time creating as nothing more than a gauntlet for tanks. While I have yet to do AV or CC, I was seriously bummed to hear that speed runs have been developed for those as well. I was holding out hope that they would do away with these dungeons once the meteor hits, but I am not so sure thats going to happen now. Get rid of this garbage SE and bring us something that requires thought, teamwork, and allows for multiple strategies.

I still hold out hope that the Meteor lands dirctly on the entrance to the darkhold.

Yea, would be nice if SE was able to get people out of that state of mind that they need to take advantage of anything possible instead of just enjoying the content and play it the way it was meant to be played.

The issue, for me, is making a hoops to jump for max rewards. Meeting the conditions of the rewards becomes more important than having fun. Currently, I'm having more fun running stronghold runs and moogle due to the lack of hoops to jump through. I just can whip up a party of anything and have fun. The hoops we jump feel like they should be more of an achievement that a condition to get the max gear drops.

Agreed with the topic creator. Speed runs should be abolished as a way of rewarding the player, all it promotes is isolation due to elitism, skipping actual dungeon content and class stacking. I think you should be rewarded for clearing a dungeon completely, not rushing to the boss as fast as humanly possible.

There's nothing inherently wrong with time pressure as a mechanic. However, the current implementation leaves something to be desired.

First, there's no precedent for this sort of rush to the finish mentality in the entire series. The dev team talks frequently about capturing the Final Fantasy feeling, however, armor design isn't enough to do this. Dungeons in Final Fantasy are about exploring, completing puzzles, finding treasure, and defeating bosses and mini bosses. I can only think of a few cases in the history of the series where I was forced to rush through a dungeon.

Secondly, it shouldn't appear in every dungeon. It's perfectly fine to build certain content that features a time pressure mechanic. Say what you will about FFXI, but having various "types" of raid content was a smart idea, that allowed players to pick a la carte the type of content they wanted to play.

And last, when it does appear, it needs context. Why do I have to complete this in 30 minutes? (A magical chest only appears if so is not a reasonable explanation.)

i'm pretty sure pre-tp/mana burn setups, most people actually had to push pretty hard to beat Ouryu and Bahamut v.2 as quickly and efficiently as possible, as the time allotted allowed for only minimal mistakes if you expected to recover and finish.

dynamis and limbus were a bit different since you generally weren't going out of your way to "speed run" it, but you were certainly rushing to farm as much as possible before time expired. (and one could argue that if your end goal was to farm dynamis lord or attestation NMs, you were most certainly rushing to burn through as fast as possible)

I suppose I did myself a disservice by not qualifying my statement. "There's no precedent outside of FFXI."

Final Fantasy is a huge series with a rich history to draw from. Some parts of FFXI worked, others arguably did not, or at least are less than desirable. Regardless, most, FFXI events do not feel like break-neck rushes from the get go, and those that did, did not boil down to running through packs of enemies and making them disappear via panels on the ground.

Regardless, I was referring to the rest of the series. And to be perfectly clear, the bits of FFXI that felt the most quintessentially Final Fantasy were not bits like the raids, but segments like CoP missions, which for the most part, did not involve time pressure.

People want the option to relax.

Not to mention gating loot behind a time trial compounds the problem that every MMO experiences. Players without experience in a dungeon have no chance to learn without causing the rest of the group to suffer.

It has been said in this thread all ready, however id love to see these speed runs stay and NEW varied content come out, outside of speed runs. A few dungeons where the challenge is through speed run is fine but please SE don't make it the same for every dungeon lets get varied content.

Someone all ready posted another option like meeting certain conditions in the dungeon that become increasingly difficult and maybe add some lore along the way that match those conditions.
