i just dont buy this tbh. your post lacks a lot of "care" or legitimate frustration that would come with loosing your house unfairly like this. i feel like your just posting this to make people in comments argue and fight.Well, it looks like I lost my house despite visiting it often enough to keep it. I was vigilant enough for years to keep my house, but the game didn’t care. Anyway, my stuff is at the resident caretaker and I don’t have enough free space to get everything back. Am I just going to lose all of my housing collection?

I’m not a big housing person. I got one on a whim and held on to it for dear life for years. I can’t remember how long I had it. Probably 8 years or near there. I used it to store all the housing items the game kept throwing at me. Housing is not big deal for me, but do want to know what to do in this situation. I can’t even get a house if I want to, because I can’t collect my stuff since I don’t have the inventory to.
As harsh as it may seem, you're just going to have to make some decisions on what you keep and what you don't, on your retainers, saddlebag and inventory. If you're holding on to gathering items, they can all be gathered again. Same with any crafted items, that don't include super rare mats. Just dump stuff.I’m not a big housing person. However, if you're not a big housing person... do you really care what happens to the housing items?

Housing is not my priority, but it was nice having one. Since I had a lot of items I earned for free doing the every holiday quest since 2.0, I’d hate to have to buy stuff with real money when I earned it fair and square. I was already looking to go to a new location, but now I’m forced to, but can’t due to my stuff being in an NPC.As harsh as it may seem, you're just going to have to make some decisions on what you keep and what you don't, on your retainers, saddlebag and inventory. Yea, so just make space and claim it off the NPC. How much stuff are you holding on to, that you really don't need to?Housing is not my priority, but it was nice having one. It’s mostly glam. That’s my game. I collect glam items. I’m also still leveling roles, so I still have low level gear for those. I’m just a bad hoarder. I’m trying to only put my favorites in the dresser, but it looks like I might have to put more in there. Damn!

You can easily get them back out later if you need to. But overall it's useful having more stuff in the dresser rather than less, and cull it when you're running out of space.

I would buy an Apartment, not only do they never expire if you don't enter them, but you get 100 spaces to dump furnishings in the room, plus another 100 for storing even more furnishings.
You will be out of luck for exterior furnishing storage though.
So, you could take a few furnishings from the NPC at a time and dump them into the Apartment.
Don't forget to reclaim the Gil from the same NPC as well, you get back 80% of your houses purchase price, but you probably noticed that already.
