    Really thats what WoW did. Sure technically players can assault others from the opposite faction at any given moment if they cross paths but they were assigned open world PvP zones made for the actual system. This is prolly what they should do for their next big PvP update. Make like a huge instanced zone akin to the tower take overs from Outland in Burning Crusade or whatever that works

    How does it affect your activities? In my understanding, NPCs and the like wouldn't be targetable, it would only be people who have opted in going at each other.

    I think if they were to do an open world PvP, then they would need to have open world PvP servers IMO.

    Or do something like what Runescape has done in the past where they have a 'wilderness-esque' area which is open to PvP. They can put some items behind it for normal players, so that it isn't overly invasive on non-participatory folk of the experience in the game.

    You have a point. i think of this as the "compromise" solution, and I fully agree- it's not really a true "OW" , however it is more immersive than, for example, just having someone queue through a DF. It also lends itself for future iterations- for example maps can be expanded, or a true OW corridor can be added to get the zone.

    This gets asked from time to time. Not like all the time, but now and then someone would really like to initiate some player on player violence outside instance.

    Makes me think; do these people hang around the Wolfsden Pier's dock ever? "Not the same thing!" - but it is only outside of instance place where we can pvp. Make sense to me at least that if this is fun and interesting to you, why not take the chance, the only chance? Show ff14 devs that this is something people would like to have more!

    In reality, if you step on the dock you are ignored, maybe one or two people come to stare at you beyond the safety line. I can count the fun duels i've had with three fingers, and I don't even need them all. The finger I mean.
    If the motive for asking this is actually hoping pking to be activity/content, something you could do when you are bored, then yikes. No thanks.

    I don't think open world PvP would be a good idea with the kits we have now:
    If you go by GC affiliation, there would be nothing stopping 4 ASTs partying up and roaming the map, instantly killing any non-tank within a 20y radius every 30 seconds.
    And if you force FFA, you'd force people to play a job that's good at dueling or they'd just die all the time. The entire zone would just be filled with jobs like MNK, NIN, DRG or GNB.

    If they really wanted to do open world PvP, they'd have to give us a special kit for it, because there is no dueling balance atm.

    Just put dueling or small teams vs Arena in each of the capitals. Maybe new platform on one side of the Aetheryte area. Open world solution would be wonky with different PvE and PvP skillsets, how would they change on fly?

    The only reason you'd want Open World PvP, is to bully low level people and gank unaware players cause lolxdfunny.

    PvP is fun when both parties are given the same tools at the start of the match, and then use their skill to see who's best. Ganking a level 14 player in Central Shroud isn't PvP, it's bullying.
    We could have open world Invite duels I guess, but that's not Open World PvP anymore.

    Mao agrees. Mao has played many PvP games and in EVERY...SINGLE...ONE...OF...THEM is always been abouts stronger feeding off the weaker. Fair fights are MYTH. Mao used to play Eve Online. Mao knows. Is far FAR too many peoples engaged in PvPs that want do its just to make others unhappy. Even in games designed for PvPs from ground ups, is much restrictions for where PvPs can be dones. Devs know that unrestricted PvPs is recipe for game to suicide due to peoples abandoning ship.
