He is widely agred upon to be the only person who can/should pull off being the face of FF14 social media.

I make an active effort to not follow ANY 14 content creators cause I just find videos of the game outside of guides stale as hell and devoid of originality. But if I had to pick someone, it would 100% be MrHappy.

Hell, the man got me into the game and I only ever played platformers and the odd niche rpg before him.

Just no lol. I don't think he is. He is just one of the more known ones out there. People utilize his videos because he puts out good guides and info from live letters and stuff so ppl don't gotta sit through 2 hours worth.

Otherwise, I don't see anyone in game talking about him or praising him. He just another content creator amongst content creators to play the game. He just happens to want to help the community in a way that say bald man doesn't (we all know xenos likes to do bids about useless drama)

Lol have to stop ya there on the visual thing. Ya need to open your eyes to some of the better indie games and older games that people still play...heck i will even add pokemon as it's not graphically impressive.

Sure I've seen XI and it's from ps2 Era but who cares. The story is good. They could redo graphics with a budget I guess but again...why destroy something like that when WoW has same Era graphics and is popular as ever

WoW has had at least 1 major visual overhaul that I'm aware of. Yes people play indie games and older games. However the amount of indie games that pull enough attention to take off is rather small and for millennials and the generations that came after them older games tends to be a niche thing. Trying to sell a PS2 game that also requires a monthly subscription to younger gamers is a tall order to fill. Which is sad because as you mentioned the stories in the game are good and it has a vast amount of fleshed out lore to explore as well. Also FFXI keeps one of the best aspects of actual RPG's in that the game is essentially as difficult as you make it out to be via your own behaviors and choices. Though that might actually be a counterpoint to it with these newer gamers given their tendency to cry and scream when a game doesn't have a selectable "easy mode" with recent examples being titles like Elden Ring, Armored Core 6, and Lies of P.

If they had the decency of providing the option to pay sub for both games at the same time at a discount I'd jump right into Final Fantasy XI for longer period. The price they charge for XI subs + all the extras you have to pay for in 2023+ is absolutely ridiculous. The game is from 2002, with a dedicated staff of 2 people and Square-Enix's investment in it is just keeping the servers running. They could well afford to lower the sub or offer a discounted sub combo.

I would totally try it if they did some sort of sub discount. But I can’t see myself paying two different full-price subs, plus whatever extras are involved. I’ll probably just watch some lore videos on YouTube before Dawntrail comes out. But who knows? We still have JP Fanfest coming up… they could always announce something like this then. Even if they discount 11 for players who already maintain a 14 sub, that’s still more money than they were getting before.

IMO they need to make a general SQEX Online subscription that covers all online titles. Doing so would have benefits for players and the company. Players have 1 less hurdle to try out new online titles. For SE that basically amounts to more potential sales of online titles down the road and a higher probability of subscription retention as players can just migrate to another title during content lulls. However I'd also push to say they would really need to port Dragon Quest X outside of Japan to have this idea really take off.
