Choosing to subscribe for years without breaks isn't luck. You started in 2015 like me and had the same opportunity which you didn't seize. The bids were all mine because I placed them early and I placed enough so that other large plots had fewer bids. That's not luck, but strategy. Obviously there are players who only started playing after 6.3, however new players have the option to wait until the next ward release just like I waited.

Isgard housing was released in Endwalker and it still had 3 larges per ward despite the fact that many players can now afford them, so mansions being reserved for the few is intended by the developers.
