The name reminds me of maplestory.
In KR version the pirate class is called Viper and NA verison its called Corsair.

Almost exactly true. Corsair in KMS was still called Cosair, it was Buccaneer that was called Viper in Korean Maplestory. Honestly this is where I think that the naming convention is an asian cultural thing because KMS's Viper leaned heavy into Pirates, Dragon Ball, and Dragons more than it did Serpents and Vipers. And since the FFXIV team is much more keen on keeping a majority of stuff the same between regions, it's probably why we didn't get it changed to something more Western based like what they did for Maplestory

I am really struggling to accept this as an archetype, especially the Viper name, but if it exists across several games other than MapleStory I could understand it a bit better.

I think my biggest disappointment is that we already did the whole "fang" thing with Sage. I had to dig pretty deep into FF lore to feel like the nouliths were justified as a weapon. I just think it displays a lack of creativity to push out another snake-themed job, especially when we only get two of these every couple of years.

I would have loved to have searched for other examples for you, because I am curious myself....butttttt now every search about MMOs with jobs named viper is full of the announcement of Viper for XIV. oh well
