This isn't SE implementing a fix. This is SE implementing a frequent suggestion from the player base that SE felt was reasonable in scope.

I don't think either side foresaw this complication from the change but then the first thing most MMO players do when they level up is get the best gear they can afford. They usually don't settle for using gear several levels below what they could equip since better gear means enemies dying faster and greater survivability when not level synced.

If SE is going to make some sort of adjustment to remove the complication, it could be a few months before they have it tested and ready to implement. Such code changes can be tricky with the potential of causing more problems than they solve. What will you do in the meanwhile?

I understand not wanting to buy gear to get access to the roulette as a matter of principle, but principles aren't going to get you access to the roulette.

Right now, a player on the NA worlds could purchase the materials to make a full set of Classical fending gear with weapon (ilvl 580) for about 20,000 gil and give them to a friend willing to do the crafting for them. That's not per piece, that's materials for the entire set and prices would be roughly the same regardless of what set was needed. I doubt the EU prices are all that much different for the materials.

It's up to you as to whether you want to wait for SE to make an additional change which could be next week or next year or never, or spend a little gil so you'll have access to the roulette again faster.
