I lost interest around the same point. I think Tales of Arise handled similar subject matter with more nuance and maturity. I did like quite a few of the characters in FFXVI in terms of their design and personalities but much like with Endwalker I just didn't think the payoff was worth it in the end.

Add in very little in the way of exploration, no real cities to run around in, no additional party members and a lack of side activities and it became a genuine struggle to finish it.

Dion was the highlight of the game for me and even he was drastically underused.

It did also shed some interesting light on certain design decisions that carry over between both FFXIV and FFXVI.
