I don't disagree with you, though I think it's a bit more nuanced. I remember Extremes not being AS punishing in the past. Maybe it's rose tinted goggles, but I remember being able to recover from deaths and clear, and now, they seem to have a lot more body checks that lead to wipes like Savages do and a lot more overlapping mechanics. I HAD to watch a guide for Ex5's big combo attack at the end because the X/Box expanding pattern just isn't visually obvious while also trying to deal with the stack/spread things. Extremes used to be more midcore content than they are now, so we had that bridge better in the past, even as recent as ShB. Emerald Weapon (the fight that is now Golbez) was hard, but that's because it hit hard. Other than the balls at the start, if you had a death or two, you could get those people back on their feet and keep going. If you're short a person in either Gales 2 or 3 or the meteor/flare/knockback (either one of them) or the skyfall thing then two man circles (that are immediately followed up by said body checks), then it's a wipe. In Emerald, if someone died to the sword cross attacks, you could raise them and you could survive the group stack marker that came after it even if down a person.

It was hard (in a way, harder), but it wasn't as pass/fail, which I think is the line between midcore and hardcore.

I would disagree with BA being midcore, it has the same hallmarks of what makes something generally hardcore.

I kind of agree, but that's why I pointed out Bozja. CLL, DR normal, and Dal were a lot more midcore. And for all the complaints at the time, Bozja was largely a huge success.

Bozja still has the requirement of joining discord servers and reading guides. For the most part Bozja and Eureka are owned by 1-2 discord servers per DC and you either join those and run the content with their guides and by their rules, or you really don't do it very easily.
That's something I would definitey say should not be a part of midcore content. If EX fights and Savages, which are considered hardcore, don't have discord voice chat, discord integration, or guides required to attempt, then I don't see why something that's supposed to fill the niche directly below, and designed to lead into it it would require those.

Where is there a requirement for Bozja to join a discord? The only thing I can think of, is DRS, which is fair enough. But I've never heard or experienced anyone requiring discord, to either do field content, CLL, DR or Dal. Same with Eureka, outside of BA. Or is that what you are meaning - BA and DRS?

BA and DRS need discord for sure, but other parts of the content push you towards discord.

CLL DR, DAL all need a base number of players to complete, which the solution I most often see is "just join this discord and ask for a run to be set up"
Same for Eureka and killing quite a few of the NMs, a lot of them require a base number of players to kill, along with playing solo making it incredibly punishing to die at all.

The most important part about midcore content to me is it should not need the same group of players to be present consistently and there should be no outside guides or organization needed to attempt it. If you need to go over to a discord or outside of the game client for guides or to organize a run of content, it's starting to approach more effort and requirements than midcore entails. I shoudl be able to go into midcore content on mostly current item level gear, throw up a PF or a LFG post inside the area, and find everything I need inside of the game client there.

Don't the FATEs adjust in difficulty based on number of players in the zone? I know I've been in some low pop/odd hours instances before and could solo at least some of the NMs.

You don't need discord for CLL, DR, and DAL either. Sure you're going to need people but you can just make a party finder if there genuinely isn't enough people there or try again later. I can agree with Eureka being too punishing to die until you get to the max level for each area, but once you get Zadnor losing mettle is essentially meaningless since they basically throw mettle at you there
