Yoshi P himself has referred to someone else in the past as being in charge of cash shop additions. So yeah, not everything is his call, but obviously he's got some sway as the director. He just doesn't control literally every aspect of the game. Everyone has a boss to answer to.

Has anybody or any department at Square Enix come forth and taken responsibility for the cash shop? I haven't heard of anybody doing so. Kind of makes you wonder.

Some dude on Reddit made a post today saying they hope FFXIV never goes Free to Play, because "Every paid MMO who turns to free to play, the game has become completely plagued with bots, rtm, poor audience and toxicity, and it opens up to predatory microtransactional behavior in shops and mechanics."

I sort of get what they mean, but at the same time I'm like... bruh, we already have all those things.

That post was probably in response to the latest news where Yoshi-P debunks rumors of the game going free to play sometime soon because I guess the rumors are spreading out way to frequently.
