FFXIV cash shop in a nutshell

I think your picture is wrong, FFXIV players actually want to pay more, havent you seen ?

People asking on the forums for more boosts for things such as trusts, on the facebook page, people are actually asking for more paid hairstyles and more other paid items, glams, mounts etc, it's like people actually want to be milked in this game, it really is an experience

And then they make their own whole thread on the forums to gloat about how they bought something on the cash shop and "I would gladly pay 10 times that amount!"

I will never understand these people. Like, they can't just make suggestions for new glams, mounts, hairstyles, etc., without also saying it should be an addition to the cash shop.

I'd feel like I'd given up if I bought any store item or boost in any game.

...Gimme silly things in game to do to earn stuff to keep my sub going.

Same! I seriously have to wonder how much money Square Enix makes on selling job boosts, versus how much money they're losing by not making players actually spend time leveling. And it's not just about the time it takes, it's also about the experience of engaging with the game, hanging out with it, experiencing the job quest story, having a sense of progress. There's a hidden cost in the lack of player connection with the game.

And like you say, more mounts and glams in the cash shop means less things subscribers have to work on and keep subbing for. I'm not big into relic weapons, but there are a few I really wanted so I put in the grind. 100% worth it. But if they instead had put those weapons on the cash shop, I know I wouldn't have bought them. I wouldn't have put in the time to earn them. I would have that additional rotten feeling of resentment just knowing they're on the shop instead of attainable through gameplay. And that last one may not be the last straw that breaks the camel's back and makes someone unsubscribe, but it's not nothing either.

I don't believe that the Producer for this game makes any direct announcements about mogstation merchandise. The web site does, and it's on the Launcher page sometimes, but I don't remember seeing any announcements from him personally during Live Letters or Fan Fests.

Could be wrong, of course. Happy to see direct citations. I just think this particular meme is a teensy tiny bit false.

I also wouldn't put it past microtransactions being above his grade (Maybe what he can mtx is his discretion, but I think directors get arm twisted).

This is a bit of a double edged sword. If the Mog Store wasn't a thing there is no guarantee that any of the things that were Mog Station only would actually be in game. Quite of few of those items weren't even designed for our client but by the Chinese and Korean teams which are managed by a separate entity completely so those definitely would not have made it in game ever without the store.

On the flip side I do think it would be better of old event items were at least purchasable during their event for at least a year or two after the initial release. I understand making it for all would be... unrealistic because they design new rewards each year. If we were to have rewards from every Midsummer Festival since ARR's release that would be... well lets just say overwhelming is likely an understatement. At the same time not having it make a return at least once is a bit much in the other direction too.

Honestly I am surprised the Phoenix mount is available in game and not in the cash shop while a recolor of something else is the in-game mount. There has been a lot of effort put into the cash shop items and it feels like less in to the actual in-game items.
