Legitimate reasons why many of you do NOT like Gear Swapping

Last time I watched a war movie I saw a bow that shot magical arrows and a tidal wave caused by a person jumping into the water from the heavens. It's a game, we should be able to swap gear for the same reason that a gladiator can't use a spear, an archer can use melee weaponskills at max archer range, and lancers can use ranged archer weaponskills. For the same reason I can set Keen Flurry on a CNJ or THM even though there isn't a single weaponskill in the game I can use.

It doesn't really have to make sense.

It's not stupid. It's been a part of many games. This is one of those situations where if you don't want to gear swap then don't! I won't hold it against you. Just don't stand in the way of people that do want it. There were plenty of people in FFXI that didn't gear swap. You didn't HAVE to gear swap to win. It made it easier...it made it more fun (imo)...it gave me more things to strive for.
