100% agree this is actually the only thing that bother me with portrait.
Complicated? My goodness...Have other folks complained about how complex portraits are now?
I'd like to pick a background, frame, look etc. Once and have each class / outfit that I wear be fitted to that style. Automagically. Every time I swap jobs or go to a dungeon I get a complaint about how my portrait is wrong. Well how about I do the style once?
Do we have that option? I have not found it.
Isn't this a case of a minor feature growing to overwhelm? I would like a nice portrait, once, and then move on with my life here in the game.
???
Isn't the process of 'fixing' it just opening the menu and saving immediately after...?
It's broken alright but it's not like fixing it takes more than 3 seconds.
You have to do weird stuff to make it work properly sometimes, last time i changed my weapon glam i had to dissociate my glam plate from my job and associate it one more time before updating the portrait since only updating gave me the default plate for some reason.
So to prevent this kind of inconvenience they really should just make plate unaffected by any gear change unless you chose to edit them yourself, i really struggle to understand why they chose not to do that.
It should be this simple: pick a frame, pose, effects, and have it display whatever your wearing as you appear.
Before we had the single portrait to worry about. It's a lot more annoying when you're juggling 20 different portraits and they have to be updated any time you change a piece of gear, add materia, change materia, remove materia, extract materia, add glamour, change glamour remove glamour, switch between jobs that share role gear but each saved set is linked to a different glamour...
Of course the best part is the warning about how your gear has changed so your portrait is reverted to default only appears once you've entered an instance but you can't update quickly in the instance while waiting for the barrier to drop.
It stopped being fun and became an annoyance. If it's going to constantly be reverting to default, then what's the point of customizing the portrait?
A little QoL would go a long way here. Make the "Update Gear Set" button also update the Portrait. If they can't do that, add an Update Portrait button next to it rather than force us to open Gear Set list, scroll to gear set, right click gear set and select Edit Portrait then hit the Save button half a dozen times a day.
This would be perfect.

That sounds like a bug. I've never had to do anything but go to Edit and then Save and had no further issues. If it happens again you might want to report that. You have to do weird stuff to make it work properly sometimes, last time i changed my weapon glam i had to dissociate my glam plate from my job and associate it one more time before updating the portrait since only updating gave me the default plate for some reason.

Somehow sometimes, the save button doesn’t appear after I click edit although it tells me the portrait needs updating and I need to make other changes for the button to appear. Really they should either make it display the current gear automatically or display the gear you had when the portrait was made. Requiring constant updates for the tiniest changes is annoying. If you have only one job it’s probably not that bad but if you have them all + extra sets it’s really annoying.
They should yeah. You have to do weird stuff to make it work properly sometimes, last time i changed my weapon glam i had to dissociate my glam plate from my job and associate it one more time before updating the portrait since only updating gave me the default plate for some reason.

But that's still weird to me. I haven't run into that level of portrait jank.
