I wouldn't consider this place to be an echo chamber. People disagree on all sorts of things practically all the time.
Despite high number of trolls and bad faith actors, this is one of the few places where discussion actually take place.
While it can change depending on the general mood and the subject, both negative and positive opinions can gather around the same amount of upvotes. And your post are not hidden by default if they're controversial. Negative echo chamber? Not really.
On the reddit mainsub you can and will get downvoted to oblivion if your opinion goes against the crowd. No matter if you phrase it in the most polite and nuanced way. That is what an echo chamber looks like.
Isn't it a little early to be making predictions like that?Let me just spoil the ending for all of you: FF14 is going to continue doing amazingly well, growing, and Square Enix is going to continue putting out content at the cadence they've established in like 8.0 or 9.0 or something, continuing to please a growing playerbase.
1) YoshiP has already announced he wants to move the game away from the MMORPG genre to become known as a RPG that can be played solo or with friends. While we've already got access to some of what they're doing to re-image the game (Duty Support/Trust), we don't know what other changes they may have planned.
2) The goal is to attract more long time FF franchise fans who have avoided this game specifically because it is a MMORPG. Will this turn off players who came to this game because they wanted a MMORPG and not because they were franchise fans?
3) Try to change a game to attract an audience that previously was not interested in it has a poor track record in the industry. Those loyal to the game because they liked what it had been feel betrayed and those who were avoiding the game because of what it was are hard to convince that it has changed to what they want.
4) FanFest hasn't started yet so we have no useful information about 7.0. It's pretty reckless to predict a major success in the absence of information.
I believe it is a good game right now even if it has areas that can be improved. I think it is likely it will remain a good game but
depending on how far those changes go it may end up a game I'm no longer interested in playing.
I'm not a FF franchise fan. I'm MMORPG fan, and a fan of FFXIV as a result of that. I find much of the blatant fan service in the game more distracting and detrimental to it than beneficial, especially with the vocal whining the franchise fans engage in when they decide the devs have done one of their favorites dirty with their FFXIV portrayal. Being around people who are dragging their emotional baggage from decades-old games in public on a tight lease isn't pleasant.
If they turn the game into even more of a love letter to FF fanatics, it will probably be a sign for me to move on.
Then go and play a single player for Christ sake. I don’t like PvP games. Guess what. I don’t play them...over a video game? Seriously, I can think of a lot of other issues that are far more worthy.
The ongoing success of the entire FF franchise says otherwise. Id also like to note that single player isnt a "lonely path" by any means. Quite frankly, the mentality that people must be " forced " to be social is ridiculous and insulting. I prefer single player.
Why?
The more I see of some people, the less I want to be anywhere near them.
You are lucky that this MMo has turned into a single player but if SE had advertised their player base “we are going to turn this game into a single player experience” most of the ones who want to play an MMO would left as soon as they heard about that.
Guy praises the collective FF series that has 14 single player mainline games and about 20 spin off single player games then proceeds to play one of the only 2 MMO’s in the bunch and still wants it to be a single player gameThen go and play a single player for Christ sake. I don’t like PvP games. Guess what. I don’t play them.

It's a little more complicated than that when the devs target the "single player audience".
There's a segment of targetable MMO-receptive market that's receptive to a persistent environment that continually evolves, gets new content, allows them to build a character over a prolonged time, etc. And/or likes being able to persistently socialise in various environments with groups of other actual people.
True single-player games don't provide any of that — they get "used up", they don't provide the illusion of a "meaningful investment" for your time, they're not a persistent world with other people, etc.
————————————
However, while this segment wants/enjoys all of that, they do not particularly care about or enjoy the pressure of performing with other people in grouped content because [insert reason here].
It's actually a major factor you'll see for people deciding whether to avoid an MMO or not — "Hey, can I solo in this game? Do I have to group up with other people to complete the story or build my character?" ...etc.
It's players who have the human psychology of enjoying being in an environment with other living people and being able to interact with them, but they want to do it at their own controlled pace and not be forced into having responsibility to other people for mechanics, performance, etc.
————————————
The size of this market segment might surprise and/or "not make sense" to people who just inherently enjoy grouping up with others to challenge and/or fail at content, and have thick enough skins/egos to not stress about potentially messing up, getting blamed, having to research strats and rotations... etc.
But, it's common enough to actually be a pretty rational decision from SE. Or "mercenary", depending on how your emotions lean about it.
I'm socially inclined and such an introvert. I want this game to become full single player game, it doesn't matter what other people desire!
If you dont like it, find another MMO that suits you! /s
