*twitch* The Zodiac Spear makes me hesitant to ever open any chests in FF games since then.

As to the OP, I can see his point if he's getting some of the nasty stuff they say on JP social media sometimes. They're pretty savage. If he's just getting stuff like "You suck!" then I can see why he would be like "What can I say to that?"

He's not the director/creative director/battle designer/content designer etc....he's the PRODUCER of that game, he doesn't have to actually involve himself so much in the actual development of the game. A producer for the most part just makes sure schedules or deadlines are met and do marketing and tours promoting the game. Sometimes they deal with the contracts or communication with outside help or in some of 16s case other business units and platinum games. Its like FF7 remake Nomura wasn't really promoting the game he kind of stuck to the shadows made the odd public statement which got posted on twitter but it was Kitase doing all the marketing, interviews and promo and he was the producer. It's no different here, the other aspect you have to consider is the team has worked with him for 10 years...yeah some new faces come in and some old leave but its a tight ship, they probably know their vision/direction and can follow it even when it has to do for example the run up for 16s promo. Theres a lot of factors here, I'm not saying the guy is flawless but things like this irk me because you don't seem to know how the industry works.

This really makes it sound like FFXVI is a great movie, but maybe not a great game.
That's pretty much how I felt as well. Regular enemies were a frustration due to how easily they could be stun locked even with a basic attack from a distance. I did enjoy the boss battles which did more to keep me on my toes. Some bordered on being a little too cinematic, however - especially the phases of the primal fights where you just press one button to attack and another to dodge but it lasts longer than it arguably should.

I found most of the characters likable, though the intrigue promised at the start sort of fell away into stereotypical JRPG tropes that didn't quite hit the same notes of depth as I was expecting from a game clearly taking inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics and The Witcher 3.

All of that promotion and producing still take a great deal of time, it's not something he can just do part time whenever he feels like it. While the team has worked for him a long time and probably knows what he wants, they probably cannot implement or begin working on projects in earnest without his review and approval of it. I doubt I'm the one who is clueless about the industry when you seem to be suggesting that long term development projects for games mean next to no work for the producer who can then do other projects as they please, or that his duties as a director can be neglected or ignored without impact to the game he's directing.

I'm not playing FF16 until it gets piiiir... eh ported to PC so I reserve judgement. Not impressed so far but that might change.

I have to wonder if Yoshida is willingly this "public" or if its just Square marketing parading him around. He's making Hideo Kojima seem tame by comparison.

    Here's an indication...

Yoshida: My condition for agreeing to join the board of directors was that they weren't allowed to cut down on my FFXIV duties or tell me to stop doing live streams. They told me that I didn't have to change anything, so I said OK. So, nothing has changed. My workload has increased a bit, but it's the same level of work that I was doing before. I'm not the type that gets hung up over titles, so you don't have to worry about that.

Even if that were the case, I doubt basic DLC is going to keep him too busy to manage FFXIV. The bulk of FFXVI's work has already been done.

And again, need I continue to remind of this brain dead community that this man has been working on that game since Heavensward?

Producers and directors are frequently overseeing a couple of projects at the same time so there's nothing new there. That's why they have assistants to help them track what needs to be done and by what deadline.

If anything is taking away from the time he spends on the game, it's being on the Board of Directors. He has asked to step down because he would prefer to spend his time making games. I don't know if they have anyone lined up yet to fill his seat so he can.

At the risk of sounding cruel... too bad, so sad. The examples given are not outright hateful. Because of this I can take this one of two ways.

    1) Yoshi P is being genuine here and he needs to grow thicker skin

    2) Yoshi P is putting on an act and crying crocodile tears to garner sympathy and exploit his audience's parasocial relationship with him. (which wouldn't be new or surprising at all)

There's a chance that the actual hateful stuff just wasn't shown, but I feel that if you're going to say that there are 'tiresome' hateful comments, you need to give proper examples or it comes off as overreacting to negative feedback that you may or may not deserve. Just read the feedback, negative or not, and filter out the actual troll posts. If that's too much for you, grow thicker skin or get someone else to do it for you.

Having someone who doesn't want the role of producer for the game is only going to hurt it long-term, and probably already has by now.
