I would love DoT based DPS classes. Unfortunately, they wouldn't fit into the current 2 minute burst window meta. I would also love a HoT healer, but I guess that's also only a pipedream.

DoTs snapshot their potency at time of cast in FF14, so it's simple enough. Just have some big 2-minute skill that amplifies the next DoT(s) you land, or something that consumes all DoTs to create a superDoT, or anything else that causes refreshing your DoTs under burst window to be a sharp DPS gain.
The rest is just optimization and potency tweaks to bring the job in line.
The real problem with DoT jobs is the debuff cap. Suppose your alliance raid ends up with 2 or 3 DoTmages, but the boss can only accomodate the DoTs from 1.5 of them?

lmfao
If they ever made a new job that was DOT based this games community would absolutely riot over it because SMN WAS the DOT based job.
DOT classes can have burst phases too ya know.

I reckon what they mean is that with how prevalent burst is over damage over time given the past high end fight designs putting increasing amounts of forced downtime that DoT may seem getting shafted.
What would be nice tho if there was a skill/mechanic that essentially blows up your DoTs prematurely so you can do that before a boss disengages.
