What rewards did you get in past years? Have you really purchased everything the Gold Saucer provides?

It's possible, I guess. You apparently started posting here about two months after I started playing the game. I don't play around much in the Gold Saucer except for the Fashion Report and mini-Cactpot, so I haven't gone out of my way to purchase everything.

The event's purpose is to allow all those players who didn't start 9 years ago to be able to purchase what the Gold Saucer provides.

Can they put some more effort into the actual game itself first? Seasonal events are the least of our concerns when both the story and the gameplay are in the dumpster and raids are literally the only non-MSQ thing we're getting from major patches. (As much as I love raids, where's the side content for 6.40?)

well, just to put this out there, Genshin makes Square look like a tiny indie company. with assistance from their gatcha market their income for 2022 was 3.8 billion USD compared to SE's 2.5 billion USD.

did you REALLY want SE to put gatcha into 14 just so you can have more seasonal events to make more money? your 50 cents a day for the subscription doesnt go that far

so I would be careful what you wish for, you may not like the result

I'm going to play devil's advocate for both side of the "But Genshin!" argument. o((*^▽^*))o

    For the "But Genshin!" argument:
Just because games aren't the same genre or playstyle doesn't mean they can't be inspired or influenced by each other.

    Against the "But Genshin!" argument:
Genshin uses their seasonal events for FOMO, having unique stories and dungeons, character moments and interactions, and even lore and background information on the main story that are only available for that year's event. Once that year's event is over, all the things you gone, never to be touched by new players, who now have to worry about missing the next event.
(They also act as interactive advertisement for the characters involved in that year's event, letting you play as that character and giving you character moments with them to get you hooked on the gacha to try and get those characters. Am I salty for not being able to get Kazuha, Mona, or Fischl after playing them and seeing their unique dungeons during the summer event back when I tried Genshin? Maybe. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و )

Idk I'm playing Honkai star rail right now and it slaps. Dialogues are fully voiced and the events are rewarding and fun. You can replay big events you missed which is something I haven't seen any other game let you do.

There's definite FOMO, but thats true even in xiv or well any game to some capacity.

I just need FF14 to get their stuff together. EW patches have been sort of lacking, only a few good seasonal quests, idgaf about "Island SAnCTUary". Boring as ever, literally the 1 rare thing they could've done was make criterion and variant dungeons worth replaying for rewards and they STILL...STILL couldn't even do that. What the heck am I paying a sub for at this point, a graphic novel. Where's the max level combat that ISNT A SAVAGE RAID? Where's the feeling of openness within the "Open" world. Why must I be drip fed predictable unexciting "safe" content in a formula so stale. Wtf even is the new patch story? Like...I can't even. 7.0 better be something because at this point. I cant.

If you skip the content there is no content. There is in fact humor, lore, drama and things do happen. You may not like it, but it works with the event, setting and the people involved.

Star Rail is an oddity. For a Free game, it's way above the standard. Their pre-rendered cutscenes are amazing, the music is really good, and the MSQ is fully VA'd. The battle system is great, and definite proof that turn-based combat still has a place in modern gaming beyond just SMT games and retro-styled games ala Octopath Traveler. The story of the game itself is really well done, and the characters super charming. It definitely puts games such as Scarlet and Violet to shame.

At the same time, the game is tiny if you compare it to anything like God of War, RE4 (either), The Jedi EA games and yes, XIV/XV/XVI. FOMO isn't nowhere near as bad as Genshin, but I just missed on the Museum event because I just wasn't gonna rush through the MSQ to unlock it, as playing it at my own pace is part of what has made the game so enjoyable to me. Characters that are not unique are super generic, and animations are really stiff sometimes. Oleg's lips never even move, and the deeper you look, the more little things like these start to pop up, though arguably nothing is deal breaking really.

Star Rail should be a case study as to how Free to Play games don't have to be bad or unplayable unless you drop money into them, but I don't think it really compares too well with XIV, but this does come to mind: All Gold and Purple quests in Star Rail are fully voiced. To that, and I've been saying this for some time, all Alliance and Normal Raids should be fully voiced in XIV. We don't need VA in every quest in XIV, but in Star Rail, Purple quests are the companion quests, and they get the proper care they deserve. Alliance and Normal Raids are a big part of the side content in XIV, and the lack of Voice Acting just sucks. Bozja would have benefited so much from it.

But yeah, Star Rail is surprisingly really good.

you forget that this is the same person who says there is zero content

personally I thought it was a good explanation as to the "lore" behind why it was created
