Just to say: Japan just, like in the last month or two, raised the age of consent to 16.

I need to look up if this is accurate, because my understanding was that in Japan age of consent was set individually by each prefecture, (most of them setting it to seventeen or eighteen) with the only 'federal' level rule being that a prefecture couldn't go any lower than 13.

The prefectures in Japan have had consent set to 18 for awhile now. The change in law is at a federal level with a few additional things.

This is correct, it also tried to tie up loopholes and to try and regulate things like manga characters who aren’t real (aka “anything depicting characters under age blahblah” is included)… very specifically loli/shota nonsense.
