The prefectures in Japan have had consent set to 18 for awhile now. The change in law is at a federal level with a few additional things.
I figured she was 16 or 17. She never came across as a 12 year old to me. They have models of younger children around that age and Ryne wasn't similar to those IMO.
That said, I had no idea this was an issue somewhere.
Yeah, my guess was she was 16 because that's the age (U.S.) teenagers start gaining a degree of independence, and that is the overriding theme of Ryne's character arc, to gain the strength and confidence to make decisions for herself.
To be honest, I've never completed that quest line. But, my wife has, and she definitely thought there was more than friendship between Ryne and Gaia. Since there are so many opinions on the topic, I can only assume that the ambiguity was intentionally done by Square Enix. In the end, does it really matter?

I just figured she was "generic anime teenager" years old. Younger than the adults of the cast, but old enough to participate in the plot. Never particularly cared enough to think about it harder than that.
Which is really funny and hypoctrical since dragon ball had chichi in a armor bikini and sexualized bulma as a teenager lol
I forgot they were a character.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
