ok, i didn't read that in another thread, would not have asked otherwise.
    But it explains a lot...
it's like arguing about colors with blind people.

Kilta... you have not played the game and yet you felt compelled to open a thread to bash people who would like harder KO penalties. This is a FFXIV forum but all you do is talking about FFXI and wow in almost every topic.

Just because she hasn't played doesn't mean she doesn't know whether she would want a death penalty. And she appologized for the bashing.

I think you sound like a very passionate person Kilta. You just have to know how to choose your battles. You stand up for what you believe in, but sometimes you just have to leave it at that. Some people are just not worth arguing with.

    /hugs
I hope you feel better soon.

And just dudn't want to derail a thread to ask.
"Derailing" is what happens when you post something completely unrelated to the topic, that is likely to steer the topic down a completely different path.

Posting about pie, Charlie Sheen, or Pluto's planetary status would be derailing. Posting a question about the topic at hand (including "why is this even a topic?") is called "participating".

    Just sayin'.

I'm not asking to bash people I don't care what death penalty is in the game I was just curious as to why it was such a popular topic to talk about. I'm just curious is all. As i was curious about levequests. And why ppl felt having more time on the reset was a good thing.
And ffxiv mirrors ffxi in alot of ways. I base my ideas on them. Or come up with my own Idea. And if my pc didn't break on me I would be playing, so its not like I don't want to play

I'm just curious about what people are thinking. Nothing more. I would think death penalty is bad, and people don't olike them. And would be happy if it was gone vs making it harder. I just used the PL in ffxi as an example of ppl finding ways to avoid it. Which alot of ppl admited is why they get PL.

Sorry i'm a bit of a rambler my point is I didn't make this thread to bash people, but to ask my question out of curiosity. I was just trying to do it in a silly manner so ppl understood I had good intentions.

Well the primary difference is truly two divergent ways of looking at death. This is highly stylized so there is a spectrum of thought and I'm just picking out two different concepts.

    1. A stringent death penalty adds to the emotion of battle. The "OOOHH CRAP, a link! We gonna die! Oh crap man, oh crap, please don't let me die. I got kids, and exp. Care more about the exp though, man...phew....we lived. THAT WAS AWESOME." That feeling is not in FFXIV. It was in FFXI.

    2. Death penalties are time sinks and the only penalty is a light slap on the wrist and walking back to my body. I see the logic behind this position, but it just lacks the emotion of the first view.

The bottom line is that neither position will be able to make their views palatable to the other side. Everyone ends up more entrenched in their concepts.

    Also, I don't think you're a bad person Kilta

Well, isn't there something that can give that feeling without losing experience? I just don't want to lose all that hard work. Someone suggested anima, which I would hate, but suffer with better. Not having anima is a pain.

Well, perhaps anima is a viable alternative to exp loss. Of course, some might say that's too light or too heavy as well. I'm just basing my experiences off FFXI, which may be a grevious error in judgement on my part but FFXI parties are some of the best MMO experiences I've ever had.

It goes to the development team to dissect them and see what made them so glorious. Perhaps death penalties had absolutely nothing to do with their success. It just irks me that I feel nothing when I eat dirt.

Some say dying itself is a deterrant to poor playing. I would disagree, I just flippantly swing at it if I think I have a chance to kill it and die if I don't. I would be much more cautious and therefore more excited if I just barely won (or lost.)

I had momments like that in ffxi. Like getting my mnk af quest with my... well recent ex b/f ( ; ; ) and I accidently aggro the whole top map of davoi. (before the fix) I had about 50-100 orcs on me and managed to zone it.

UI saw a death penalty as a reason for surviving. You learn to survive to avoid death. I also took pride in my jobs and tried playing them to the fullest. Saddly no one I knew or grouped with on ffxi saw this. They saw it as a waste of time and avoided it to the fullest instead of learning their class. The relied to heavily on getting PL. Something I didn't like. With PL parties went to fast for me to keep up with and my skills started becoming crappy. I got annoyed by this very quickly.

I am sorry to hear bout ur bf, but it sounds to me as if you just had the worst of luck getting below average nub parties left and right. The only time I got a party with a PL was if my pt was so bad I called a friend (Dunes) or if one of my members were soloing with a PL nearby and they just stuck around.

With me on WHM however the PLs usually saw I had it covered and left cause I was intentionally trying to out heal them while maintaining my MP. You can't blame everyone for your bad luck, coulda been the wrong server or just unlucky enough to always run with the bottom of the barrell groups in XI.
