But you also got some weird purple shit in the back you're afraid to touch, and it smells a little weird so you keep having to replace the baking soda.

10/10, would dig in my own fridge again.

XIV players are so strangely afraid of the idea of FOMO, they turn a blind eye and act like XIV doesn't have a crazy amount of it. It's so weird. I feel like they have Bitcoin FOMO PTSD or something. lol

Yeah I don't really get it either. Because XIV does have FOMO. It has events where if you miss out on something you wanted, then you have to wait a year and then pay for the item instead. It has housing that vanishes if you're gone for too long. It has timegated weeklies that damage your progression if you're not on for those things. But compared to other games, the FOMO attraction in XIV is pretty short lived. It doesn't demand that you get on and grind for 7 hours or something. And that's all I meant by "healthier," really. It's better than most MMO fast-food services, but at the end of the day you're still undeniably eating fast food.

Speaking as someone who's been playing old school maplestory private servers because this game provided me with nothing to do over the last 4 months, I'll just say that the event happening right now in the pserver I'm in has more pull to it than anything in XIV. I was literally dragged back to XIV by friends to complete the MSQ, because I didn't want to stop doing the FOMO event in another game that isn't afraid to hook its players. I don't mind fomo shit. I like having a reason to log in and play. I think people who get easily addicted to things are terrified of that stuff though, and rightfully so.

I haaaaaaaaaaate FOMO, especially as someone who is very aesthetically driven when I play games, but FFXIV doesn't really have a crazy amount of it - unless we are referring to how they release content with a shelf life. Such as Eureka and Bozja. I guess events too(?), if you don't want to miss the throwaway stories, and items (without paying a year later). I don't really know if it can be referred to as necessarily predatory FOMO, however.

Eureka at least is still alive. I hit 60 last night and my instance had upwards of 30-40 people in it on Aether. Can still get it done solo either way though outside of BA but there's like 5 different discords that host runs of it.

And people call me crazy for saying Eureka was was one of the last good pieces of LONG TERM content the game had.

6 years later and still pulls 40 people in an instance.
Meanwhile variant dungeons..... YEAH.... that's what we traded it for.
