To me it just describes human nature and this human nature (or even a need) has been around far longer than McDonald's has existed. Everything in your life is there now in order to overcome some past inefficiency or inconvenience - it's not like we are using carrier pigeons or even the postal service to communicate here.

If people want to discuss issues with PF I will, but that's not what I read into the OP's posts. Everyone is going to read something different into the original based on issues they have with the game or maybe what they love about it. You bring up PF, others bring up generalization of classes. Many times the issues players have in a game are created by the players themselves. They give feedback about something they don't like, devs change it, then they complain about the change. Again, this has happened in just about every MMO I've played.

It's more like Panda Express. Meat's all gone, but they got a SHIT ton of rice and noodles.

Here's your chow mein, no we don't have anymore orange chicken - Get out bitch.

Hmm, perhaps I should go back a few steps, since focusing on McDonald's seems to pulling away from the point of the reply in my view.

I actually came across the reddit thread this was posted in a couple of days ago. The thread was basically saying "internal job design isn't the issue but rather bad teamwork mechanics is", and this reply comes saying, "it's both, but there might be a method to the madness stemming from the desire for consistency", and the PF comments are linked to that idea, that JP PF thrives on consistency. From this point of view, going back to say, HW job design is a bad thing.

Note that one of the replies to this reply does say that "makes sense, explains why I like current design, thanks for posting it", which the... original replier(?) says that "fair, pretending that there isn't people who like it doesn't help people like me who don't like it."

If you still don't see it that way, that's fine, but the context is important, I feel. Of course, you are right that people will read into it what they want, many replies to the reply boil down to "Mcdonald's bad, therefore 14 bad" or some such, haha.

I’ve never seen a Panda Express in my life.

    I like that comparison.....

Easy to access, but not high-quality by any means......still serves a purpose & popular despite this.

XI is more like Gourmet. Acquired taste. There is depth to it; all the flavors hit you......Can't explain it, but it is just "Chef Kiss."

XI is still the GOAT FF title, by the merit it took XIV & WoW community to combine forces, to raise XIV within XI's stratosphere.

    Also, XI has Morpher......

XIV is a high-quality game. That's why it's popular. Being easy to access doesn't make this a low-quality game. I'm sure many of us have seen actual low-quality MMOs that fade to obscurity rather quickly.

This is a fun thought. I'd say it most resembles Subway. It's "healthier" in the sense that it doesn't have toxic fear-of-missing-out type stuff to keep you locked in at nearly the extent of other mmos. But it's also kind of empty and charges way too much for its lackluster experience. In the same way that a footlong sub isn't actually 12 inches, so too is "4 months" merely a suggestion. And every so often new content (new sandwiches) are released, but in the end you just try it once and then go back to what you've been eating this whole time. It's subway! It's predictable! It's kind of expensive for what you get. But it won't kill you. And you've never felt addicted to it, at least. Oh, and all the ads tell you you're eating Fresh, but really the food's been shipped there days in advance and isn't fresh at all. Just like all the online shills tell you the game has an incredible story, but the last year of post-endwalker has felt like a saturday morning cartoon.

10/10, would dig in my own fridge again.

XIV players are so strangely afraid of the idea of FOMO, they turn a blind eye and act like XIV doesn't have a crazy amount of it. It's so weird. I feel like they have Bitcoin FOMO PTSD or something. lol

Yeah I don't really get it either. Because XIV does have FOMO. It has events where if you miss out on something you wanted, then you have to wait a year and then pay for the item instead. It has housing that vanishes if you're gone for too long. It has timegated weeklies that damage your progression if you're not on for those things. But compared to other games, the FOMO attraction in XIV is pretty short lived. It doesn't demand that you get on and grind for 7 hours or something. And that's all I meant by "healthier," really. It's better than most MMO fast-food services, but at the end of the day you're still undeniably eating fast food.

Speaking as someone who's been playing old school maplestory private servers because this game provided me with nothing to do over the last 4 months, I'll just say that the event happening right now in the pserver I'm in has more pull to it than anything in XIV. I was literally dragged back to XIV by friends to complete the MSQ, because I didn't want to stop doing the FOMO event in another game that isn't afraid to hook its players. I don't mind fomo shit. I like having a reason to log in and play. I think people who get easily addicted to things are terrified of that stuff though, and rightfully so.

FFXI is like that friendly pat on the back by dear old dad.

Right before he grabs you and chucks you into the alligator infested river with only a tooth pick to defend yourself. He calls it "building character"
