Totally, yeah. How am I gonna fall behind Praetorium and CT? Like do they even think!? LOLThe statement is there because you do not fall behind horribly if you take a break and come back. You're not far behind everyone else and locked out of doing harder content, there's no horrible grind requiring your constant time and effort to stay on par with everybody else.

Also because I can log in, raid, cap tomes for the week, and do any other activities I feel the need to, log out, and play any manner of other games that I'm interested in that have come out recently, and still be competitive. I don't HAVE to spend all day every day in XIV grinding for rep or RNG drops just to have a chance to raid.
I love XIV, but I also have a huge interest in other games. If I was stuck in XIV instead of having the ability to play those other games when they came out and not fall behind, I probably would have dropped this game a long time ago.
You keep bringing up Praetorium like you have to do it for some reason. You can just... not do MSQ roulette if you hate it so much. Also, do you even raid or do EX's? Public info says no.
Sure, but... I'm going to use the WoW boogieman here for an example, this wasn't really the case in WoW either. Who knows maybe WoW has changed, I got to max level in Dragonflight and kinda just stopped, but back in WotLK, when I first started, I hit level cap at... I think when the Crusader raid was relevant? Maybe the very end of Ulduar, I don't remember, but regardless, I was easily able to gear up and join relevant content despite being fresh. And because WoW isn't anti-alt like 14 is, I was able to get several alts ICC ready when it came out. So like, sure, maybe the point is relevant, but... I don't really view it as such an amazing point when other games have other ways of respecting your time too. And then like, all the issues ForteNightshade said, it just doesn't seem like the amazing point that some people make it out to be, you know? The statement is there because you do not fall behind horribly if you take a break and come back. Now if we want to talk about a game that definitely doesn't respect your time, I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread but I do not think GW2 remotely respects your time. The grinds to become raid-ready, the grind to get legendary armor and legendary weapons, the grind to get high agony resistance for high end fractals, it's all freaking insane, probably the worst grinds I've ever seen in an MMO lol. On top of that, you lose access to non-base expansion story stuff (so living world story that releases between expansions) if you don't actively do it when it releases, otherwise you have to pay for it.
Bro this isn't the "gotcha" you think it is, unless you're just making a joke I can never tell with people on this forum.
I actually play 3 MMOs on a daily basis.
FFXIV for group content and random casual fun.
GW2 for its massive open world content.
ESO for its amazing instanced housing.
Professional lurker.
Whaaaaaaaat, players bored with grindy repetitive content didn't want to go into the Korean Grinder MMO Fate farming corral? Clearly there's no pleasing them, they didn't want to do the boring repetitive grind or the boring health sponge field mob grind. Those are the only two options.
Middle-ground is incomprehensible! Impossible to think of fun activity to obtain thing!
Me only know Praetorium, me only know CT, me only know AFK.
THE YEAR IS 9999, YOSHI SINGLE HANDEDLY MAKING FFDCLXVI, SITTING IN GOLDEN CHOCOBO THRONE, NO MOVE, HOOK UP TO LIFE SUPPORT, SURROUNDED BY REAL MOOGLES TO CARE FOR EVERY NEED
FFXIV SERVERS STILL ONLINE, YOSHI DO LIVE LETTER, 1 SECOND STILL IMAGE, OR YOU THINK.. ONLY STATIC NOISE, OR MAYBE SCREAMS?
GREAT LIVE LETTER. THEY REMOVE ALL CONTENT BECAUSE WE SAY TOO BORING AND REPETITIVE. LET'S DO MORE PRAETORIUM. 900TH REWORK WHERE ORANGE CIRCLE IS OVER THERE NOW IS FUN. YOU NEED TOMESTONE TO PROGRESS MSQ NOW, IT HILDIBRAND. HE DO FUNNY FLIP. SINCE INTERNET SINGULARITY, NO NEED COOP. ONE MIND, ONE SOUL. PRAETORIUM AND MSQ.
Name a currently relevant mmo where you FaLl BehInD if you take a extended break. Even Lost Ark has catchup when you take a long break and its only really a grind if you try to stay current. FF14 players have delusioned themselves into thinking that other games somehow require your undivided attention and thats why our complete lack of content is actually a good thing. Its pathetic. The statement is there because you do not fall behind horribly if you take a break and come back. I like WoW's catch up system. I took a break for years, came back and there's open world zones I can just get gear from which can then be used in...other content and not sync me down to the point where any stat increases are irrelevant.Name a currently relevant mmo where you FaLl BehInD if you take a extended break. Meanwhile in TESO, everything scales to my character so I can go wherever I so wish at whatever point I desire. Plus I can take a break and not risk losing my houses.
I don't think you really know Lost Ark and it's gatekeeping and "homework" problem. Catch-up mechanics do nothing to get you into current content. Really bad example to support your point.Name a currently relevant mmo where you FaLl BehInD if you take a extended break. This isn't really that true though. You are locked out of doing harder content by way of everyone being done or everyone having moved onto the current "harder content". Want to do DSR but haven't cleared Asphodelos at all? Good luck finding a group that will not only help you clear P4S, but help you farm whatever pieces from Asphodelos are still on your job's BiS for DSR. Most, if not all groups will want you to have cleared a tier this expac as well (which is entirely reasonable) meaning you're more than likely going to have to clear the current tier before you can do DSR if that's what you want to do.
Didn't do Abyssos but want to try TOP at 6.3 launch? Well, you're locked out of being able to actually do it for 2 months, because on top of needing a P8S clear, you also need to go from your crafted 610 gear to full BiS because TOP requires it, so that will be 8 weeks or more if you're unlucky since Savage isn't unlocked until the .x5 patch for reasons?? And every job except SpS BLM needs the chest piece for BiS?? On top of that, good luck finding a PF group that is okay with carrying someone who has min ilvl gear still! Most PF groups are setting themselves to at least 625 at this point, which you don't have and can't get without a grind that lasts longer than a week (tomestones are still capped too for some reason, even at .x5! And you'll need those tome pieces for BiS!)
High end content has huge FOMO in this game, lets not pretend like it doesn't exist nor are you not required to put time and effort to stay on par if you actually want to do high end content. Can you come back on every even patch and do Savage with crafted gear? Of course, that 'reset' is a strength, but to act like harder content doesn't require a grind or constant time and effort to stay on pay isn't really true. If you have interest in raiding, the longer you wait to do it, the further you do fall behind everyone else.
