I enjoy instanced content to a extent it's a great way to design certain things like Primal fights, BCNMs, yada yada. But they are making instanced dungeons that require next to no skill to get through aside from the boss fights.

Why not just make the boss fights instanced? If anyone can show me that the content between the bosses is substantial, rewarding, or even "Fun" I'll give you this point but as it stands they may as well have had a open dungeon with a challengable fight to get past a certain point in the area.
They're limited in what they can do in 1.xx. Both by the engine/server and by time/cost restraints.

I think Yoshida need to discuss his vision of "challenge" when it comes to 2.0. He's mentioned the Crystal Tower and a Labrynth, but it'd be nice to hear more.

Shouldn't an MMO be primarily non-instanced, and then partially instanced for some content? Otherwise it's just an RPG with co-op mode.

I like the use of both depending on its fit for the given activity.

Strongholds and the like are perfect open world content. Slightly more complex activity's like cutters cry and the up coming crystal tower are best suited for instancing.

In my opinion the reason saposhe fell on its ass was two fold.
    1) At the time of its inclusion most people were far past its level range.
    2) They didn't exactly get you excited or give you a reason to go in and explore.

There was exactly one side quest that had you go out to the entrance and talk to a npc. That npc spouted off some hogwash about Mistbeard's lost treasure. Now had they added in a whole bunch of quests to go in and explore the area Perhaps it would have had a bit of longevity. Perhaps it could for new players if they were prodded into plumbing the depths a bit more. Either way it just never clicked with the current players. It is a shame as it's a pretty cool place.

Same could be said about open world content.

I agree... keep the instances for story line missions/quests and everything else for open world.

Why not a dialogue as you enter. "There is an instanced event in this location. Would you like to participate? Y/N" giving you the net effect of having both.
    Public content, yes please.

In Rift, if a rift opens up anyone in the area can auto join a party and attack the hordes of enemies its pretty simple but a lot of fun and much more appealing than behest for sure.

This 100% now if they had a quest that required you to kill the Coeruel to get some artifact (it was a stone for Gridania) that would have had people going in and exploring a lot more.

Such an awesome boss to be tucked away like that

what would have been even better is if the area had a level cap, but of course this would require it to be instanced (or maybe not if you got a buff as you walked in the entrance), but I feel all these places should be level capped (toto-rak etc) to make it more meaningful and challenging.

    Just saying.

For the record I know I've said it before but...

Killing all the fish in the room to open a door isn't something "Amazing" either.
that's what ffxi did a lot, and I loved it.

I'm bumping this because I wanna know if we can get a re poll on instanced content over open world content deal. I'm not saying take out one or the other, I just don't want instanced being dominated. So can you guys re poll us?

Player poll doesn't fall in that thread. I'm using a player poll thread.
