A stark contrast to the unfortunate decision to rid people of their houses if they dare to take a break from the game for longer than 45 days at a time without logging on.

Even WoW, with its garrisons - which admittedly aren't player housing as such - takes a similar approach. You can take a break for years and return to find the garrison exactly how it was left.
Let's just be honest here, if they wanted to fix housing, they could, they'd rather not to. And why would they ? As long as it's not "fixed", they can force in auto demo, which forces people to subscribe every month, and if they dont, they'll lose their house after 45 days, and possibly have to bid for years to come to get another one, let alone get a large house if they already had one.

This is all about the money, they dont care about housing one bit, but they know how to milk the money from it, and its a success because it works
