Tanks have way too many DPS skills and need to lose a lot of them
And yet there are a lot of situations where you want to be at max range, Raiden in BA, Gurangatch among Elpis' A ranks(his slams are 24y, you can flawlessly avoid them as Healers, BLM, MCH or BRD) are a couple examples, do note I said "I want to be able", not that I want to always be there, I want the option to exist in externuating circumstances where to stand at max range is optimal, right now, the option does not exist for DNC due to the range limitation on those 3 skills, two of which are core aspects of the job, and the third, well, I'd still rather not miss on that potency just because I want to be far.
SCH wasn't extremely overpowered before, they simply had a complete kit. Look at the current healers, they all now have what SCH had before. Direct heals, some OGCD healing, and good aoe healing.
However, today all the Healers are a homogenized mess (every single healer has both shields and regens) and SCH is the weakest healer who completely lacks an identity and are still being punished for being strong 8 years ago. Hell the devs straight up outright stated in the patch notes (paraphrasing) "We didn't know what to do (to improve) with Scholar"
Tanks have too much self healing that basically negates the healing role in too much content.

I thought this thread was about unhinged takes, not correct takes.SCH wasn't extremely overpowered before, they simply had a complete kit.

The original cleric stance was great and people complained too much because of their lack of understanding of skill queuing so they had to nerf it, and eventually just remove it.

Tanking peaked during SB.
Stance dancing was fun and a risk:reward situation needs to be embraced, not shunned.

AST became stupid. Dont get me wrong, with so much crap you have to click you are kept busy for sure but there is too much empty healing to the point that the other healer doesn’t even need to heal so they will be diminished to a glare spam, plus the cards were dumbed down unnecessarily. Instead of giving so much fluff, maybe allow us to actually play with the cards properly vs yet another boring dmg buff. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to remember six different skills.
--Paladin is the only Real Tank in the Game.
All of the other ""TANKS"" Are just Glorified DPS.
--Ast was always just a Weaker White mage, and the only reason anyone liked it was for the "Fish for Balance" strat.
--Scholar was always a s*** healer, until Endwalker.
Dual Casting with the Fey was actually fun though, and it needs to come back
--Kaiten did nothing for Samurai, and DarkArts for Dark Knight was not fun.
If anything, their removal just feels weird because its a button we were used to pressing. So it feels weird to have 1 less button in the Rotation.
--I miss Grease Lighting and the Stances for Monk
But its "Rework" made the Job Better
--Bard should have more Song Skills akin to Ninja's Mudras.
--Dragoon is a Solid DPS, Im scared the Upcoming Rework will Ruin it
--BlueMage doesn't need to be Changed or become a Full Job. Its Perfect the way its designed.
It just needs more, and Better content. And perhaps a tiny bit more freedom.
Did I do this right?
My unhinged take is Square Enix made a serious mistake when they came up with the design of white mages. There is no reason we should have holy spells.Give me your most unhinged Job take that you still genuinely believe in.
White mage spells should be elemental in nature to reflect the deep connection we have with Gridania and its elemental guardians. In addition, white mage characters should have the horns associated with padjal.
If Square Enix wanted a holy spell driven healer, they should have had introduced Priests in Heavensward as servants of the Ishgardian church and Halone.
Yes.
