The Game Visually Shows you that when you do something: Defeat an enemy, open a box, etc, that you pick up an item.
And this UI element is there to show you your Inventory space. It is now Your Responsibility to manage and organize and clean out your Inventory.
The game even still does you the service of playing a sound effect and Text in the middle of your screen when you are running low on space, down to the last 5 or 3 slots
Could it be improved?...well yeah, anything you can think of in life could be improved. But, The game has supplied you with the tools to succeed, and somehow its not good enough.

I just cant even....
