Other than that, why are you comparing it with a multi-player game with varying degrees of network connectivity for each player?
Was their point so incomprehensible to you? They're saying the very basics of client interaction and use of slow animations with excessive delays feels aged in general. It's like taking a time machine back to 1998 trying to play some jank ass AOL games.
Even when you compare it to other MMOs it feels dated and slow in that regard.
I'm trying to do my Retainers and Expert Delivery right now, and it just feels so bad. It's not even the network at this point, it's the excessive waiting on animations combined with button prompts all over the place.
Also, the line is getting pretty blurred with Single Player and MMO at this point. Basically has been since Diablo 2, and that was 23 years ago.
Even the Souls games could be considered a type of MMO these days, especially with Seamless Coop.
Hell, I still play Ultima Online to this day, and even it feels way less abrasive. That released in '97.
Not like XIV ever gives us a major reason to actually coop with more than 4-8 players anyway. We're hardly even an MMO anymore.

Okay, I came on a bit stronk. And for that I'm sorry.
But I can almost guarantee that's what they meant. I still stand by what I said with how it's all forced animations and button delays for the sake of slowing the player down at every turn.
It just.. Doesn't feel as fluid as most games these days, and even MMOs. Playing WoW as an example (Yeah..) is so refreshing because it never stops you. Or if it DOES, it does it in a way it doesn't feel like it's taking your time.
A good example is how XIV has teleportation, but WoW mostly has flying. I never felt like WoW was intentionally slowing me down, or that it felt aged. I just felt like it was a world to explore. Even though getting to A-B is way faster in XIV in general.
I wish XIV would get rid of all of these anim delays and mass prompts for everything. If they want to slow us down, then do it while we're teleporting, make it a travel where we float there. But don't make me wait at the portal with my hand on it for 5 seconds. That just isn't engaging as a player. It feels weird and slow.

Doing my custom deliveries today I will say there is definitely room to lower the amount of inputs, like allow me to hand in however many up to the 6 and not me having to spam each one. It is things like that, that they indeed can fix or make much easier and have proven so in other aspects of the game. I definitely feel there are many areas they can trim down button input bloat or delay. In regards to wow flying...I just don't like it, both games suffer from old zones being pointless but at least with 14 I can teleport about where as in WoW I have to flight path to an area...or boat to another or mages guild to another...counter point it does give coherence to the world but I think I'll forgive the coherence for ease of getting about.Okay, I came on a bit stronk. Yeah, I think after awhile I did start to feel like I wished there was an easier teleport in general. So if WoW had an easier way to teleport to each expac it'd be nicer. I know you all like your jank ass portal tower, but it's jank. It old. Delete that shit. Also delete your 20yo ass towns too. They gross. lol
Then if XIV maybe removed some of the excessive Aetherytes and centered them in the zone instead of always in a far corner. But also XIV just barely has any reason to even be in 90% of the zones..
Like this is just absolutely excessive.

It's really why the mod community has taken off this past year. They have the ability to scrub some of that abrasiveness away, and they did. Yoshi needs to be paying more attention to what we hate, and what takes us out of the general mood with basic gameplay.This is exactly what I meant. I thought I made my point pretty clear. Yeah, I can only imagine! Wish we could have access to all that on console too. They very much do need to start focus on the fluidity of the gameplay, no one wants casting bars for interactable items or endless confirmation windows.
Portals in WoW can work the same depending where they are, like if a dungeon mechanic has you enter a portal, it plays a quick portal animation and you are wherever you need to be. And thats a multiplayer game. Most MMOs actually work seemless with minimal to no loading screens. You are just excusing the poor tech side of the game
