I also feel taking a break and unsubbing is one of the few ways we can in a tiny way show SE that we're unhappy with the game at the time. Or at least I feel a little dirty paying for the game when the content is so bad or there's no longevity to it. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with whether I have the money to pay for a sub or not. So far at least this expansion has definitely not been worth paying a sub for, none of the content has any longevity and the increased wait between patches makes it all the more excruciating.
Honestly hard agree. The only reason I haven't unsubbed at all this expac is because of housing. It's incredibly frustrating. I can't even vote with my wallet without being punished.I also feel taking a break and unsubbing is one of the few ways we can in a tiny way show SE that we're unhappy with the game at the time. So give up the house and unsub if you are genuinely that unhappy with the game. Encourage those you know who are likewise unhappy to give up their houses and unsub as well.I also feel taking a break and unsubbing is one of the few ways we can in a tiny way show SE that we're unhappy with the game at the time. Giving up the one thing that means enough to you to keep paying a sub is going to make a much stronger statement about just how unhappy you are.
In what universe does it make sense to keep paying for a game you don't want to play just to keep a house you wouldn't be using since you're not playing the game?
If you want housing you can keep without being subscribed, there are apartments.
If people who don't want to play the game didn't cling to houses they aren't using, maybe the supply problem would stop being a problem.
Or! How about this? SE fix the god damn housing system so there wouldn't be a supply issue in the first place? Unbelievable blaming players for their absolute incompetence on the matter... There wouldn't be a house auto demolish system in the first place if there was adequate supply. People feel they need to keep their sub up because it is such a pain to get a house, you have the cause and effect all backwards. Stop white knighting for the company's bad design and decisions!
If you've ever visited the Housing subforum, you would know that I have been pushing for SE to switch to an instanced housing system on the level of ESO, WildStar and RIFT housing for years. The ward system is a failure. It can't keep up with an ever increasing player base. It doesn't not create the feeling of a neighborhood for most of the players who have managed to acquire a house and yet are highly unlikely to encounter other players in their ward due to the small number of owners per ward.Or! SE remains stuck on the ward system, though. They've made no indication they'll consider giving us anything else.
I try to be a realist. If the ward system is what we as players will be given to work with then we need accept that until SE decides to change something. That means players will always be upset with the system. Even if we got to the point every player could get a house, the goalpost would get picked up by the player base and moved to "every player should be able to get a large" and that simply will never happen unless SE were to dismantle the current wards entirely and release new ones. At which point, they might as well give us the instanced housing that would have avoided this mess in the first place.
So we have a system where not every player who wants a house can get one on the worlds where they've chosen to play. That means to keep houses in the hands of players who are active instead of having a bunch of houses sitting unused, we need to have demolition.
Everyone who has purchased a house since demolition then apartments were added back in Heavensward should be well aware of this. If you didn't want to have to remain subbed all the time, you shouldn't have purchased a house. You should have opted for an apartment and asked a friend who doesn't have a problem staying subbed to add you as a tenant to their house.
Instead what we get is a bunch of players who are unhappy with the game but for some reason want to keep paying a sub just to keep a house in the game they don't want to be playing. Their money, they can waste it if they want. But they need to keep in mind that by doing so they are not doing anything that might pressure SE into making the changes they would like to see in the game.
I'll rephrase what I said earlier: money may talk but giving up something that you like and keeping your money is going to speak a lot louder in the long run, especially if there are a large number of players who feel the same way you do and choose to do the same. Otherwise, you're just tossing money in SE's pocket. They have no reason to change anything if players are going to keep subbing to the game even when they're not playing.
Wanting to take a break from the game doesn't mean that you want to quit the game for good though. I get what you mean, sort of, both options suck in their own ways. I don't know if SE is even going to care if a few people end up giving up their houses, it's just less money they have to spend on adding new wards.
Thats.....on YOU though.
SE isnt making you do anything. YOU are the one that Authorized the Payment to go through, SE and Team have NO control over your money. YOU do.
So dont be mad at SE, be Mad at Yourself. You chose to keep paying the subscription, to the Higher Ups, that means you are happy...because you Keep Paying.
Technically, if he has a house - then he has to keep a sub or else he loses it. No other game on the market does this on a sub base. Its a problem with the flawed limited house system that gives a tether to people who have par taken in it.Thats.....on YOU though.

This is incredibly disingenuous. Yes, it would be my choice. No, they DO in fact have control over it. If I'm paying for a sub while not actively playing its because I want to keep my house. That is an insanely flawed system, especially since you aren't refunded the cost of the house should you lose it. If you blew say 20 mil on a medium or god forbid bought a large, that's an insane amount of gil for them to hold you hostage over. I could almost forgive that though if houses weren't so scarce, the fact that you can lose your house while taking a break the company advocates for and then potentially not get another one for MONTHS or YEARS is absolute insanity.Thats.....on YOU though.
