Apparently Endwalker is the closest we've gotten to Chemist being added but they thought it wasn't magical enough and that throwing potions at people looked weird. I think both of those reasons are pretty silly because 1. not being magical is part of why it's cool just like someone may be drawn to Machinist instead of Black Mage and 2. nobody would care if the animation was a potion going into someone and if it's that much of a problem just make them shatter in the air before they land.

Yes. Sage is what the Chemist job turned into when S.E. switched out the potions for laser syringes.

Personally, I think we have enough healing jobs. The addition of a new healer would not increase the number of healers in the game. Players who enjoy damage dealers don't jump at the chance to play a new healer. Neither do individuals who enjoy tanking.

If anything, the addition of Sage caused the number of players wanting to heal to dive because S.E. took draconian steps to simplify and homogenize the abilities across all four jobs. This made healers boring to the very people who had invested the most effort and time healing. Not to mention, S.E. mangled the class identities so much that the game play has nothing to do with the lore of the jobs. Chemist will be treated no different.

Currently, we have reactive healer, reactive healer with proactive buffs, shield healer with minion, and busy shield healer with no minion. Where do you add chemist?

Ranged DPS with a splash of magic. Debuff class, anyone? We can even shove in some 2min burst nonsense into the mix~!

I don't think people would be happy if Chemist was added to the game as a damage dealer. They want it to be a healer.

We wanted dancer to be a healer as well but here we are.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Astrologian is getting a rework in 7.0, as far as I know there is no official word on what kind of rework exactly... So adding in a 5th healer shouldn't be entirely out of the question.

Oh goddess, another rework? Hasn't Square Enix done enough to astrologians?

Eh, The class has only been largely reworked twice in like 3 expansion launches. As I don't recall it getting huge changes in Stormblood... They'll be fine...
But in all seriousness, they could give AST's current role to a new healer, in this case Chemist, as they try to figure out what the heck they exactly want to do with AST.

But as for weaponry, looking at the games the job as appeared in the past, 5, Tactics, X-2 and Bravely Default. With some mention also to X (with Mix as Rikku's overdrive) and Bravely Second (as Patissier being the game's equivalent of Salve-Maker)... The weapons they've mostly used a dagger (single, not dual wielding since that's usually a Ninja thing) or a gun...

I think Chemist from FFX-2 is the path I would love to see a job like that go. Throw potions as your primary means of healing, use mix to combine different potions to get different effects whether it be healing or damage. We need an actual gun healer so that we have a gun user in every role.

Apparently not. Personally I feel they should have just removed the Sects in Stormblood (since they had always been the source of why AST couldn't be balanced properly) and then they wouldn't have had to do so much work now.
