It's true that Square "warned everyone that this would happen". However, that doesn't change the fact that they shouldn't be charging people for a service that isn't being provided.

One PR-friendly way to deal with this would be to give a blanket 10 free days of game time or so to people who signed up or reactivated characters during the affected time period. It cold be that they are waiting to see what the damage is on this before announcing any compensation, but it would benefit them to make some announcement regarding compensation sooner rather than later.

Tis true. As the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted. The moral of this story is that when it comes to spending "hard-earned money," as ppl love to call it, treat it like "hard-earned money". That means taking the time to get the facts, ask questions, and obtain information before throwing your money at something. Its not SE's fault, they said it in plain English. You, or your girlfriend, just assumed it would be taken care of earlier than is actually the case. SE said very clearly, all transfers should be finished by mid April. You should know at that point mid-April could be the longest you'll have to wait.

Really if you're gonna talk about hard-earned money, treat it like hard-earned money. SE did everything they needed to as a business to give you information you needed to make an informed decision. Your gf made a poor decision based on information, or lack thereof (idk what she knew exactly). She has no one to blame but herself, and I suppose you if you were helping her.

I disagree, because SE is not forcing anyone to pay for a service they can't enjoy. A little reading goes a long way, I will repeat what they announced:

Transfer of ALL characters is expected to be completed around mid to late April. This means if you want to resub, but dont want to pay for not playing, then you can wait until mid to late April before signing up again. In other words, one has the choice to wait for the transfer to be completed, or sign up early and pay to not play for however long it takes for your character to be moved.

Your suggestion is completely unnecessary, and a billing nightmare since FFXIV charges per month, and not per day. Point blank is that no one forced anyone to pay for a game they can't play. You could just wait until inactive characters are finished being transferred.

Spoken like a true Square Enix white knight. Call me crazy but I we kinda expected the Dev. team to do their job right (god forbid) and didn't think we'd need to check the front page in case it says "Don't reactivate or we'll screw you out of your money ". In the years we've spent playing XI and the time spent playing this game we've never encountered anything like this, and as so, felt no need to check the front page before she reactivated. And I can almost guarantee that you've never specifically scoped out the front page for information like this when reactivating your account either.

Was half expecting someone to say April fools.

There definitely needs to be some compensation for players that didnt get transferred yet if you reactivate. Kind of unfair that people have to pay for a service they aren't even getting.

Also, it's most likely "business days not including weekends and Holidays so that may ALSO be why it's taking so long.

They should of added a more noticeable disclaimer for returning players, a normal person wouldn't take the time to see a small amount of text that says "A Notice to Players Resuming Their Recurring Service Option (Mar. 28)" especially when it's already been bumped down twice from the 29th news so by Wednesday it won't even be noticeable on the main page.

The other issue is you don't even have to go to the XIV site to resub, you go to SE's member site and on there they only have the following news:

"2012-03-18 21:30 From: SQUARE ENIX Account
    [Recovery] PayByCash/UltimatePay Recovery (Mar. 18)
2012-03-06 18:00 From: SQUARE ENIX Account
Recovery from Payment Processing Issues (Mar. 6)
2012-03-06 12:00 From: SQUARE ENIX Account
    Payment Processing Issues (Mar. 6)
2012-02-10 06:20 From: SQUARE ENIX Account
[Recovery] Recovery from Payment Processing Issues (Feb. 10)
2012-01-26 01:15 From: SQUARE ENIX Account
New Subscription Payment Option is Now Available (Jan. 26)
    "

Then on the XIV service acccount they have:

On this page, you can perform various actions on FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts.

*Please click here for instructions on transferring character data from the Beta Test.

the * is in red, so I don't see why they didn't add another red* saying

"*Your current character may be unavailable for play because of recent server merge"

So ya, hopefully a GM or community rep gets hold of this topic and can do something to help you out but ya hopefully you're able to fix this current issue you're dealing with.

I've actually had this issue a few months back and it lasted for quite a long time. The way I some how fixed it for myself was to log on to the forums via the lodestone. For some reason that worked for me instead of logging in through the forum themselves.

Sorry friend, but your wrong. Anyone who has been through a server merger in any game, knows it can take time to get all the information transfered.

    But wait.

    You specifically said
we've never encountered anything like this
so if your going to reactivate into a situation you have neer dealt with, common wisdom would dictate that you look into it.

Your just trying to exclaim that "SE screwed you and is wasting your money" when thats not the case. So far we have advised you how you how to get the time returned, and explain that issues of this nature were warned. What do you do? You call every one "SE white knights". They are trying to post information about how to get your time extended to compensate for the time lost, as well as clarify to you, that issues of this nature were explained. Frankly, I prefere to be thought of as a white knight anyday over being thought a fool. Clearly your no white night.

Funny, the mergers in XI went fairly smooth last I remember, nothing to this extent. And the warnings, while they exist, were vague and not pointed out in the manner that they should have been, but that's square enix, doing the absolute bare minimum that they need to do. I could go on but I think Airget's post pretty much sums it up in terms of how this should have been dealt with.

Honestly, you can spew as much nonsense as you want, but this is a problem, and they should have disabled the ability to reactivate accounts under these circumstances.
