I don’t think so. Largely because Ivalice was harder and engaging. The problems stemmed there from people losing patience on each other and rage quitting because they couldn’t do the fight and or weren’t willing to help. I ran that raid so many times back then and boy did people die. Personally I find it fun when raids have consequences and am upset at the nerf. But ultimately no one would run them. So I get averaging them out.
Nier on the other hand is just a slog. It wasn’t hard then either so there’s no dumbing down to be upset over.
Like it’s more of a reputation thing but nier never gained that reputation to begin with. Yeah there’ll be a few but I don’t think anywhere as big. And anyways, since when have they cared? It’s not like upped the difficulty on Ivalice after the outcry.
You know I think I’ve been accused of trying to run a sweat shop here by suggesting punishing players for dodging other alliance raids that aren’t CT but honestly that got me thinking that SE is super guilty of this. Basically the reward system around their instances in DF is akin to running a really low quality content mill where people just churn these things over and over until all the content is soulless and loses its spice. The facts are people don’t run the roulettes for fun, which is ironic given this is a game.
I don’t know that the DF was a good implementation in the long run. After all it trivialized and destroyed social connections and the purpose of FCs and the novice network.
Maybe the roulettes should only exist for very select current content if at all and leave the rest of the duties up to the players to connect and collaborate. Basically return some agency to the players instead of the game trying to do everything for you and feeding you BS rewards that encourage time efficiency.
We’ve seen this work actually, fringe content like BA, DRS and Rival wings that receives no support from the game has communities that are alive and dedicated to running these things. So likewise I think PFs, FCs and discord communities would step up to fill these instances and the experience would be better because of it. I just feel this approach wouldn’t trivialize the content so much everyone is bored out of their minds running it for tomestones / XP and putting up with strangers that got shoved together and become toxic when it’s meant to be a joyful experience. There will now be trusts if you don’t want to wait or be social anyways.
Alas this is just a rant.
