There are enough people around in the community that do genuinely espouse the idea of SE being clean and pure as the wind-driven snow that it makes the more moderate crowd less noticeable, particularly with how positively vitriolic some of them can become in their defense of the company and game. People tend to focus on negative experiences, and I'd say some of the less-than-kind things said to and actions directed toward individuals bringing forth criticisms of the game more than qualify.

For example; you will occasionally see mention on these forums of people being harassed in-game and on other media for criticisms of the game. When brought up, these instances are typically dismissed as being fictional. Such dismissals will occur regardless of the presence of absence of evidence, corroboration by others, etc. This is a thing that can and does happen more often than it should (and the amount it should happen is 0), and the people perpetrating it don't always get their due punishment.
