Ideally, they should completely overhaul leves in 2.0,
I'd like to see leves issued at different places that are thematic with the issuers. GC counters, Class Guilds, and General Battle Leves at the adventurers' guild.
In addition, the option for players to create leves would also be nice for DoH Guilds. Give players the option to trade all the mats and a reward to an NPC and then pay insurance for the amount of attempts they will allow (insurance is so you don't lose mats). That leve would then be available for crafters to attempt.
In addition, they could introduce Faction Leves which have a tiered NM structure (think ZNM in FFXI, or Mob Hunts in FFXII) with increasing rewards and difficulty as you work through them.
BTW, Is it possible the 'echo' is going away in 2.0? "Yester with thine eyes, morrow by thine hands"

Progressive mob/nm hunt leves would be f'ing awesome. I got addicted to the monster hunts in 12.Ideally, they should completely overhaul leves in 2.0,

Could turn leves into like BCNM type things. Trade in seals/form of currency/faction points to get a pop item for an instance/HNM fight. Two things popped out to me during the first fight with the Molbor:
1) I know leves aren't going to be a huge part of the game anymore, but from the intro video the fight starts after the Midlander starts day dreaming after staring at his leve. I thought to myself: "What if they made some leves aquirable by other means rather than just getting them at the guild?"
Maybe something more along the lines of you getting a rare item FROM leves that you can trade at the adventurer's guild for that other RARE leve and fight a monster (like the morbol in the into) that needs a full party and get a cool reward from it (like U/U gear).
That definitely will make leves more desirable and useful.
2) The second thing that I took note of was also during the Morbol fight. The Lalafell mage enchants the Midlander's bow/arrows and they become fire arrows. If we had something like that that boosts melee weapon damage according to the mobs you're fighting, maybe we would've had more diverse parties in doing stuff.
For example: Fighting a mob that's weak to fire, you need 1-2 THMs/BLMs that can enchant a WARs, DRGs, MNKs etc weapons thus making those jobs' damage compare to that of a THM/BLM.
Then we wouldn't have "THM ONLY" parties.
Thoughts anyone?
However this is probably straying far from what leves are actually for, which is for solo leveling.
What I said above should probably be it's own form of content, but still use the Adventurer's Guild to get pop item. (like the orbs from kindred seal, you went to the one guy in Jeuno in FFXI)
This is off-topic in terms of leves/intro cutscene, but on-topic in terms of what the OP was saying with getting rare items by initiating special quests at the Adv Guild.

I really like the idea of Leves as the "BCNM" of FFXIV. The system is in place for it already. I suppose it could be exploited by having outside players attack mobs, but if they make the battles instanced (like most mission battles are), it would solve that issue.Could turn leves into like BCNM type things. Having a gallery of completed leve tiles/slates/cards/whatever would be a cool thing as well. Fill out your album and collect rare ones...
You realized the intro video is nothing at all like the game? Yeah, me too.
I think the story has only gotten better since the Yoshi team took over, and with 2.0 bringing in an entirely new storyline, I think we'll see a new intro movie and hopefully Leves made more meaningful.
