What's the deal with the gear in FFXIV? I'm not really all that far in the game, but I look up everything that's coming up once I'm a higher level and it's all the same. It seems like you're not really being rewarded with your pillow like arms, and your weird jackets made of linen. Ocassionally they throw some plate armor, and some chain-mail on an item, but still... it doesn't look cool enough to make you feel awesome. I'm not saying go WoW and have glowing skull pauldrons, but there should be a massive change in the overall image of your character as you level up. I want spikes, I want colors, I want shiny glass stuff, I want badass helmets, I just want to look cool.
I think it all boils down to me wanting to look like a Final Fantasy character. Not some poor serf. Wouldn't it be sweet to look like Cecil or Gabranth? Hell, it'd be sweet to look like Bartz or even something like Rikku.
Final Fantasy has a long line of visual badassery when it come to the characters overall image, so what happen here? Even in FFXI you look moderately awesome by the time you're level 20. And the 'cool' factor of your gear goes up like a J-curve. I just want to have another MMO that I can fall in love with. FFXI filled that role for me 5 years ago, but then it got all crazy. FFXI did something for me that no game has done before. While I was playing I felt like I mattered in the world. And it was fun getting together with random people and working together. I didn't like endgame too much but I loved partying and skillchaining, and making the best possible party setups. I had 3 Lv.75s and none of them were necessarily awesome. I was never outfitted in Homam gear, or the cool armor from Aht Urghan. I never had the weapons that were millions of Gil, but I still had fun because the game was incredibly fun before the whole endgame thing.
I just want to have fun again... ; ;
