That's too bad. The armory system is the only unique gem FFXIV really has versus all other MMOs.
How about a login feature that kicks you in the crotch anytime you go to play, that would be something that no other MMO has either.
Just because its unique doesn't mean its good. But this is my opinion, and they can choose to keep the armory system and i'll just not play.
But how is making a gladiator (master of weapons) only able to use a "one handed blade" allowing you to customize your character? What if this system was in 11? A paladin goes to rest and switches over to a dark staff... and suddenly he is a mage... that makes a lot of sense to me.
I'm using a keyboard now, so i guess i work in IT... but if i get up to make a sandwich and pick up a butter knife i'm suddenly a gladiator rawr!!!
Weapons don't make a class... the abilities of a class make a class... and now we have weapons which decide your profession... with any abilities you want. That makes perfect sense.
Although putting Gladiator into the role it's in now is a bit disappointing, they have already mentioned the classes are going to change in one way or another.
That is ... an epic post. Thank you, sir.
Admittedly, you have said everything I was typing up to say and much more, with even more depth than I would have been able to instill. This thread needs attention from the developers soon. You have pretty much covered all the bases in your changelog. I will make sure the word gets around so that this is not passed by.

If these changes are all implemented, Then FFXIV will quite possibly become the best MMO of all time. I would play that game until the servers shut down, no doubt.
Very nice PDF there keft, just skimmed over it, and alot of the points i agree with.
A lot of suggested changes and agree with most of them.
It's a translation issue. The gladiator in this game isn't a reference to the fighters of the arena but simply a person who uses a sword. It is literally "sword user" in Japanese. The reason it is named gladiator in English is because gladius = sword in latin and thus gladiator = sword user.
I think you summed up the rolling list of concerns and have captured what i feel would be good in most aspects. Great job! I have many comments but to sum up my thoughts on your document in a sentence:
---
Crafting isn’t fun.
---
You nailed it... I go to sleep every time I craft. I don't mean I get tired or I wander off. I FALL ASLEEP IN MY CHAIR EVERY TIME.
Thanks for the wonderful summary, there is too much to respond to.
