To be fair, they've been called Lamias as well in the FF franchise, which are an ancient Greek mythological being, with FF XI ringing the loudest bell for me. I think they just like using mythological names even if it doesn't follow the source material closely, if at all.

I understand most MMOs reusing greek/norse icons, and west is fine with it because they long left paganism, but hindus are like 1 billion or so last living pagan culture alive today not some prehistoric dead culture. There are war happening, terror attacks for cartoons, who knows what happens for drawing Bahamut.
