Kupo <3 this is 2023 let people dress in what makes them happy. The real reason this could become a slight issue is most bis of course is not a full set of anything so it would look like crapola without the glam and then if folks started only wearing full sets that would just take away from stats causing yapping down the road etc..

I would just leave it alone kupo <3 but I do see the point.

To be fair no one is asking for people to not dress a certain way or even prevent someone from doing so, all this would be do is extend considerations for those that simply rather not see it for whatever reason.

If there was some magic wand and this option could be added to the settings, but I had to give my approval for some reason as in the hypothetical you provided, I would say no. I say this as someone in game right now, waiting on my levelling roulette, looking at someone dressed as a lime green chicken mascot...

I am of the belief, as an older MMORPG player, that MMOs at their core are shared social experiences and you play in a shared world with other players, and not my personal sandbox that only I control and participate in. I believe character creation and expression is a core aspect of an MMORPGs. I believe people asking for this are antisocial and objectify other players. I don't believe other players in a shared experience should be able to control what MY character looks like and wears. I believe that I consent to game-approved outfits being displayed on screen at the moment I sub and continue to choose to play knowing such fashion exists in the game.

I think this whole request is petty and snowflakey. I also think this will never happen and never will in FFXIV or 99% of any MMORPG. (Again, GW2 that a certain misleading poster keeps going back to, despite this beind discussed pages ago, is a performance option, not a fashion option.)

And again, since this option is not in the game now and I doubt ever will be, I really have no reason to really care much more about this thread. The demands of a few (some who genuinely want this, others who just seem to enjoy arguing such as the "i don't care but I won't leave the thread types, and some who just like complaining about anything they can in FFXIV given the nature some posters on these boards), won't change it. The ramblings have gone on nearly 3 years now.

That said, I am pro-mod and people doing what they want behind the scenes, quietly, and never to be mentioned to me on their own client side. I don't care if PC users mod for this and I never have to hear about it or see my character changed on official forums or in game. Disagree with dev approval of this as a business model in this genre. I think it's a waste of dev resources and would hurt, not help, the bottom line of the game.
Last question if I may since I understand that you are done. At the core, if we really boil it down leaving the complexities behind regarding implantation and cost.

At the core what is different from someone not seeing your character by not playing, and not seeing your character by using the feature? Either way the effect is the same they do not see your expression. I get you one might say one situation has the person playing and the other does not. Though if this is about expression and the social aspect does it not lead to the same end goal a possibility that someone may not see how your choose to express your character?

I fully understand the stance regarding cost and stuff to be against, but this notion of expression does confuse me because I just do not understand how someone not seeing you a certain way hinders that sense of expression. To me this seems like any other blacklist feature at the core. We are okay with blocking speech, but what people wear is where we draw the line?
