I wish people would stop bringing up the real world. This is not the real world, this will never be the real world and the real world will never be this so bringing it up in any capacity in regards to this is moot.my personal take on silly/crazy glams is that if magic existed irl and so did all the sort of base elements of story/background that make the universe ffxiv takes place in then there would absolutely be those people who would dye themselves neon blue and shart brown and run around in a mascot head, punching gods in the face while doing a fortnite dance simply because they could.
"silly" doesn't mean unrealistic. if there are people like that irl now (without the magic and punching gods in the face) then there would be people like that in ffxiv's universe, too.
Still more preferable than some other looks.

Wow. Just wow. The level of narcissism and lack of understanding of Human nature being presented here by many of you is beyond the pale. Yes, Human beings in general DO have a need to express an identity to others. It is built in to Human nature. It is the primary means by which people establish their place in society. Taking that away from them is indeed an attack upon them. Just like in real life, if you don't like how people are presenting themselves you can just ignore them. To want to strip them of that expression is EXTREMELY self centered. It may not hurt you to do so but it DOES hurt them. Like it or not, there are 8 billion other Human beings on this planet besides you and you are going to have to accept the fact that you share space with them, regardless of whether or not you approve of how they look. The same applies (but to a much smaller scale) for FFXIV. At any rate, I have said my piece and it has become abundantly clear to me that there are a significant number of people among you that literally can not seem to comprehend just how wrong what you are asking for, is. Thus it is time for me to bow out. No sense beating one's head against a brick wall.Do you feel the need to express yourself to every person you walk by? Do they need to recognize your outfit and be able to pick you out of a crowd?
No one is taking glamour away from you.
Only that those who don’t care, who shouldn’t matter to you because you don’t to them, can go about ignoring it further.
To touch on your laws, yes they exist. They exist to ensure people have rights, and one of those rights includes safety. Turning off your glamour does not violate your rights or make you unsafe.
There are also laws that protect people from invasive expression. Like indecent exposure laws being an obvious example. Please don’t think I’m using public nudity as a comparison to a persons glamour. The forums like to twist things. It’s merely a counterpoint.
Once again this is not the real world and once again this is not taking anything away from anybody.Wow. Just wow. no, it isn't "moot". the players of this game exist in the real world. in fact, it's our only existence. if your argument is so easily defeated by a single statement, pitching a fit when people use it isn't going to help convince others to side with you.
"It's violence against me to not want to see my glam in an MMO" is a new one for sure.Wow. Just wow. anyway this entire debate is moot because of the simple fact that cashshop glams exist.
there are many players that only purchase cash shop glams because of how others perceive them for being in them. if you add the option to hide the glams you are thus adding the option to discourage others from spending money. square would never allow that.
Except you haven't "defeated" anything. Video games are an entirely curated experience whereas the real world you have to interact with elements you don't wish to on a regular basis. I can't snap my fingers and mute someone in the real world but I can here. I can't cast magic or summon primals in the real world yet I can here. That's the beauty of video games. To experience things you can't in the real world. That includes being able to control what you see and hear around you.
Except as others have pointed out Guild Wars 2 earns all its money via cash shop glamours and they still have this feature. Just saying "this is moot" because you disagree with it solves nothing.anyway this entire debate is moot because of the simple fact that cashshop glams exist.

You don't get to determine any of that.because i don't need to.
people are weird and square likes money. end of story. end of point. end of post. end of subject and end of discussion.
there is nothing more to say or debate. there is no defense. discouraging glams discourages money and discourages players from being themselves. it won't happen.
