If you don’t know me, don’t interact with me, don’t socialize with me nor I do any of that with you, why is it so important to identify yourself to me when I’m never going to give you a second thought? We do not matter to each other yet this vanity necessitates that I must recognize your identity

(RP mode off) Because it is what human beings are. It is a fundamental part of our social structure and it exists in nearly every endeavor we engage in. Clothing, music, art, etc., human beings have an instinctive need to express themselves to others. So much so that in real life there are often LAWS implemented to PROTECT that ability to express oneself. Human beings DO matter to each other. I am going to turn your statement around on you and suggest that it is narcissism that allows for the making of statements such as the ones you have just presented. Shutting down the ability of others to express themselves to you is a selfish act. If you do not like how they express themselves, you have the right to ignore them. You do not have the right, however, to strip them of that self identity. Not in real life and not, as of yet, in FFXIV. At least not without the use of third party mods.

No, what it does is avoid situations where people are forced into it. If people are forced to interact with things they don't like it breeds anger and confrontation. If someone spams sound effect messages in a duty I'm in and I can't blacklist them or mute their messages guess what? There's going to be a confrontation about it. They can think their stuff is so unique, original, and creative, but if people are forced to interact with something they don't like then there will be push back and possibly confrontations about it.

What self-moderating tools like this do is cut it off before it gets to that by letting people just ignore things that they don't like. There's no need to have an argument over it if you just sidestep that by letting people avoid things they don't like. It doesn't remove anything from you unless you're a troll whos fun relies on getting negative reactions out of other people, the people who like what you do are still there.
