Think the point they are trying to make is some people here are acting as altering ones character without their permission is some major issue that detracts from their own personal enjoyment. Yet they are still playing and assumingly glamouring even though mods exist that alter characters without their permission.

I mean I get the stance of not wanting it because it would take time or not liking it. Though please let us ll drop this narrative that it would forcibly take away create freedom or impact the freedom others. All people have to do is what they are doing now be ignorant to the fact these things exist.

I mean let us be real how many people are like whelp better not glam since someone is probably altering how I look. Thus the reason for hypothetical before outside of dev time / mods no good counter argument has been brought up. It all boils down to I do not want it, or I want to be seen.

Expressing yourself is nice, but if someone chose to use the optional toggle and turn off your glamour, it means they aren't interested. Why would we need to express ourselves to others who aren't interested and want that to be forced?

A toggle would make no difference because your glam is only going to be invisible to the few players who really couldn't care less about your self-expression, while still being visible to everyone who does.

Again, mods are not supported. Nor are they discussed in game, or photos of them allowed on official forums and community channels.

Character customization and presentation has been a core aspect of MMOs since the 90s. It's why character creators exist. Why things like glamors and dyes and cosmetics are an increasingly large part of the MMO experience. Whether you are a fashionista or a hard-core raider that AFKs in town so people can inspect your leet uber-raid weapon, you are controlling your appearance to others in the shared game world.

Mods existing doesn't change that I maintain control over how my character presents in the world for the vast majority of players, and this is protected by the Devs and official rules. Modders can't send me screenshots of my character looking different, make comments in the game about how they made my character look, etc. This has been core to the social aspect of MMOs forever, and removing this feature would be a very bad move.

I don't know if people just enjoy being contrarian or antisocial, but I maintain this should never happen and probably won't, given the genre this is.

Not the same thing. That is a performance option and accessibility option (some people can't handle flashing lights). It doesn't control other players in the same way.

Yet, once again for the zillionth time, you are not controlling anyone by using this feature. Why are you people so hung up on that notion?

Then why keep bringing up mods? I didn't bring them up, you did as some strange support for the use for this. My point was modders do lots of things, from DPS parses and other features that the devs decided would not be part of the game.

The point is that modders are already altering your appearance and you are not being affected by it in any way. You are aware of this happening yet still choose to play. Why would it being an official feature suddenly change that?

I can sympathize with wanting to not see people in bathing suits, chocobo costumes, or other "silly" glamours, but at the same time I also really don't want other people to see my character running around in something like a hideous healer skirt for example. I guess it doesn't actually matter, but I would hate to know that how I'm perceived by other players is determined by my ugly BiS gear, or appropriate ilvl gear.

Wrongs. So very wrongs. Glammings are way to express self. It is way to show identity to others. Turnings that off prevents them from doings that. Is incredibly self centered to thinks that is not the case.
