It needs to be an equal exchange I think.

If you want to display other characters in generic attire, you'd have to in turn forfeit being able to show off your glamour to others and appear in genetic attire on their screens as well.

I would go a little further with that honestly.

Those that want to not view other people's glamours get the toggle, but it removes ALL glamours from their side. So they can't even see what they glamour onto their own gear. It just toggles all player characters to be in lore appropriate job gear.

That would be a much simpler toggle to implement I believe(and I'm no programmer, so who knows), rather than making it so that only other players are affected on their screen, which would require more lines of code than:
<if job A is on screen display artifact gear for job A on sprite>, and so forth for all jobs.

So now that we have female characters tanking in string bikini's and now men in wedding dresses, it's time to adopt an option a lot of other games have: Hide Glamour. Naturally troglodyte are going to assume it's because of the men in dresses. It's actually because it's breaks the theme and feel of it being a final fantasy game. Tanks should wear plate, healers should wear robes, and no one should be in a fight seriously wearing carbuncle slippers and lingerie.

I don't propose a limit to glamour, I just want to be able to turn off other players glamours displaying on my client. That way they can "Express" themselves all they want, and I don't have to suffer another topless male in a thong.

You say glamour goes too far. I say it doesn't go far enough. I want healers in plate, and tanks in robes.

Unrestricted glamour sounds like a better idea. Luckily for you, however, Square Enix can make something look like a "brand new item" by simply re-using models at different ilvls for other classes; so they likely won't do that because it would make them look bad for how frequently they re-hash models for gear and/or just color swap them/make them undyeable. Be thankful Square Enix has an image problem and doesn't want the fact that they barely put a fraction of a fraction of any money they make back into developing anything for the game. Recent mogstation controversy is a testament to this truth.

I think the idea that it distresses people is silly but I'm not going to discount those people entirely. The idea is to make a net total positive in experience.

Why is one person not seeing your "expression" so dire? In what way are they preventing someone else from expressing themselves. If anything the net effect is one less person who HATES what you're doing. Do you really really need to have that person "experience" you?

The entire idea that this should be eye for an eye means you see this as some sort of punishment to the person who will never know it's in use. It's not a deal, it's not an exchange, it's not even targeted at one particular person.

I understand there are those who ENJOY that part of it. They like that others cannot help but see the ... creation... they have made. But those people are what we in the civilized world call annoying and it is not a trait or behavior I feel needs to be encouraged or is particularly beneficial to cultivate.

Disingenuous if you are talking about the option for people with terrible computers who need to use the lowest possible graphics settings, which then puts models on almost no resolution and in a basic outfit for everyone in the game, along with other poor graphics settings. Not what is being asked here at all.

I never really knew it was so important for people to show off how they look, never much been into fashion though so the appeal is lost on me. Granted, I see that I fall in the minatory when it comes to people that do things solely for themselves and not for themselves and others.
