Playing an expansion as current content has been a lacklustre MMO experience

I'm not trying to argue if it's good or bad, merely pointing out that the other poster saying the game is more akin to a visual novel with occasional gameplay is pretty accurate.

Which is fair to say that honestly. Still, you only go through the whole story once as a new player. Access to participate in current endgame is a lot more approachable and easy compared to other MMOs and that alongside whatever other content you passed up takes the majority of player's retention time. I cant fully vouche for this as Im currently playing with alt characters but I always have something to do every day. I just dont spend my whole day playing FFXIV. I setup a short task thats easy done in whatever prog Im doing and then I log out and play something else.

On the contrary. I installed the game back in 2015, played on-and-off for a few years, really got into it probably around 2018 or so, and it's been my main (err...only) MMO for almost 2 years now...and I still have a long "to-do" list of activities I'm either in the middle of or looking forward to starting. There is most definitely a huge array of content in FFXIV.

So, story is story. You only go through it all once afterwards story patches are at least a few hours of narrative content at best and the rest is just whatever. This argument doesnt hold much merit when you consider that perspective.

We're also talking about 10 years of content, people who bring up the length while not taking into the time context is simply being disingenuous. Even if we gonna cut the MSQ down by haft, it will make a lot of people mad during a new expansion and patch cycle period. And in 10 more years you still gonna have that problem, if that is a problem.

Also cant dismiss that story is still content to a lot of people.

Exactly, it is there for the people who can enjoy it.

And if anyone don't want that, there is already the story jump that will skip 80% of the story content. Don't want to spend? Esc + skip also eleminate roughly 80-90% of the MS playing time (as someone who has 4 alt, I can attest to that). Option already exists.

This is a point I have been repeatably point out close to half a dozen times in this thread and others, but never once I see anyone want to seriously address it. Each and every time they just want to deflect this particular point with meme post, probably in hoping it will just be fluffed over. (i.e post #393 on the previous page) I think they know reality does not agree with their points, but too stubborn to admit anything but their own take.

The game's success both in term of commercial and accolades speak for itself how many people enjoy it. People are free to warp thing in their own head, but that doesn't affect reality.

But then when you get through all the story, the rest of the game doesn't have a whole lot else going for it. Bit of a pitfall of having story be the main source of content; you can only get one play through out of it generally speaking.

Normal Mode is literally a visual novel, no challenge, no pay-off, just deal with it and get on.

Extreme or whatever is for people like me I guess, but I'm still mad at Yoshi P's Battle Designer for making EW final boss seem like it was not even a real final boss thus there is no real pay off (but here is Extreme! But its not part of the story)!

What are you talking about? I've repeatedly - WE have repeatedly discussed this. Saying it has not been addressed does not make it true, this whole thread is in regards to the 'MMO' portion of the MMORPG called Final Fantasy XIV.

I meme, because it's all I can get across now. You forget what thread you're in, and keep talking about how great of a Single Player game XIV is, when we just want the MMO back.

I've stated multiple times that MSQ was not something I was interested in when I started playing. Even back in ARR almost everyone complained about the MSQ. It was never really seen as the main focus, and it's only recently become the main talking point for the game's 'content'.

Before Shadowbringers, most people didn't give a shit about MSQ, nothing made sense, it was going nowhere, and the writing was 90% awful. They didn't even have Ascians and the Arc as a whole figured out until then.

Are you talking about the fact that XIV is still breathing? It's barely breathing, we had a surge from the WoW exodus, don't pat yourself on the back so hard - That doesn't mean we're the GOAT. When your talking point is saying XIV is the best MMO out there, while simultaneously congratulating the 'MMO' for only being entertaining 3 months every 2 years, then it's no better than every other MMO out there barely hanging onto a playerbase all the same. This one just so happens to have the Final Fantasy title on it, so people naturally seem more interested when they go "'MEMBA CHOCOBO?!"

It's gotten to the point where the MMO portion is no longer fun outside of RPing or decorating your house. Nobody runs the actual content, if they did then we wouldn't be bleeding players to every other MMO currently.

You say that XIV is successful because of it's formula, but forget that the formula has changed significantly every expac cycle before Endwalker. It's only now that Shadowbringers and Endwalker are basically the same, and the combat and content model outside of MSQ continues to wither. It's become what you so desperately want, a Single Player VN with RP housing.

We stopped being an MMO in Stormblood, the design philosophy has slowly been creeping into instanced single-player. We're frogs, and we've been successfully boiled. Congratulations.

Where are the lies? I want to discuss - This thread is regarding the 'MMO' portion. Let's talk, you want to talk. You had your chance right here even. We can be civil.

Talking about the MSQ shouldn't even be allowed here. We can all agree it's not even a Multiplayer experience. If it is, then we may as well just call Netflix the best MMO. At least Netflix doesn't make me watch all episodes of a show before watching another show, or tell me I need to spend $50 to skip to the next series.
