That comment was some of the best foresight they've had for XIV, which is impressive given their general lack of it. But yeah, I totally agree with you, and it's tiresome having people always toss that line back at you as if that really excuses the state of XIV's content.

With that said, always keep giving suggestions, but I'd also try to make peace with what XIV is. There have been complaints about the content for ages, but it seems as if they're pretty comfortable sticking to the same routine as it's been working out for them.

FF14 badly needs some competition in the MMO market imo.

You can only make a statement like "go pay for another game to entertain you so we don't need to provide long term content" if there are no better games and you know your customers will likely stay subbed and come crawling back for the next patch.

If there were really good MMO's out there, it would be a massively risky statement to make. If for example I got bored of 6.2 a week in and went and got invested into some other really good MMO's ...why would I come back for 6.3? I found a better game and I'm invested into it. I don't need ff14 anymore.
The devs have become very relaxed with ff14 because all they have to do is stick to same, tired, safe formula patch after patch and their subscriber count stays stable. Currently ff14 is doing really well, because there's not really anything better to move to. It feels strange to say it, but I hope WoW's new expansion is a huge success.

People acting like FFXIV ia some kind of commitment to them. Kinda shows how much people put themselves over a single video game with these kind of statements.

Also the MMO market right now is kinda getting heated with a lot of upcoming MMOs trying to do different things. Even WoW's new expansion has been getting lots of praise, so saying that FFXIV lacks competition is a uninformed statement.

Like I've said before, there's competition all over the place for people's time. The popular thing to do with subscription services is to put things on hold for a bit and come back. I do it with Netflix and Hulu. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. There's only so much to consume at any given time.

I don't know how relaxed the team really is, but I think they have a hard time seeing anything wrong with what's going on when they're still making enough to start up new worlds.

I'd like to see a midcore in the game. If it actually existed before I started in ShB, then I'd like it back. I'm already subscribed for what'll be the 6.3 launch window so I'll give that a go but if I soon find myself bored, I'll just do what I've seen some people suggest and only care about XIV as a story game... even if it's frustrating as I have to play an MMO to experience it and I'd rather play story games as an offline experience made in something like the Unreal Engine for the fancy ray tracing and not tab target combat.
I think your complaints valid. There is some grind to this MMO, its just well hidden. For example Farming EX mounts and the Astrope Whistle by doing the mentor roulette. These are just items and little to no story to them though.

Yesterday I logged on, I leaned on a column in Radz At Han for 5 mins and logged out lmao. Anyways, here is what I did before I burnt out:

    1. Did all of Bozja, including DRS for the mount, I'd consider this large scale midcore content. You need to find a good discord that runs these.
    2. Farmed all the EX mounts to get the big mount from collecting all 7, it was a chore
    3. Got my Astrope, the hard way, staying for EX roulettes etc.. This wasn't worth it TBH
    4. Beat POTD
    5. Beat HoH
    6. Farmed the Gold Saucer for its mounts
    7. I did finish Island Sanctuary (eh, I mean, I appreciated it even if its not exhilirating)
    8. Did my favorite Beast Tribe quests for mounts
    9. I clear every unreal that comes out, I consider this midcore content
    10. I do clear savages and ultimates, but I understand this is not in the scope of activities sought.

And here are a few things im sort of working on:
    1. I intend to finish Eureka eventually, very on and off, mainly to run Baldesion Arsenal, I consider this midcore content
    2. I need to finish Another Sildih subterrean since I'm at the final boss. I consider this midcore content

And... thats about it really. I have CUL and ALC leveled for food and pots for raiding but im not big into DOL/DOH stuff.

I agree that unsubbing is a poor excuse, an MMO should be willing to consume your life with awe and adventure but not force it. In other words I don't have any issues with the catch up mechanics or the way raid tiers.gearing works TBH. But the world just needs expansion to a ridiculous level where travel and exploration and things to discover should abound, I'm not a big fan of instancing everything. I still dream of this. I wish real wilderness and dangerous monsters roamed uncharted territories. But alas resources are limited and I don't think this MMO will ever bring that to the table.

What kind of logic its that?.

It's totally depend on how you want to spin it. Some people want a high profile, glamorous relationship, while someone other prefer having a cheap girlfriend. FF14 is a cheap girlfriend to me.

    - Once a while she gussy up for me and we spend quality time together.
    - But she doesn't demand my full attention, give me my own private time.
    - And even if I end up neglect her a long time, it doesn't take much to patch up the relationship again.

If you want a high maintenance 24/7 lovey dovey, I'm not gonna say it's a bad taste 'cause you do you. But there is a logic behind why some people doesn't mind a cheap girlfriend.

Don't exactly know why you insert the online store into this argument though? Guess what, I don't like it either, and have never bought a cosmetic item on it. I don't complain about it, neither I have problem staying away from it.

You know, before I broke into the MMO scene many years ago, I was strictly an SP player. Hell, I even went as as believe people who pay sub for an MMO were stupid and weren't shy about making that known. When I asked one of my college friend "how can you justify paying sub for WoW when you don't even playing that much (guy was super busy), just 2 months and you can buy a brand new game you can play forever!"

He didn't try to argue back whether I am right or wrong. He just explained to me like this: well, when I go watch a movie at the cinema, between ticket, parking, food and drink that usually cost 25$-30$ for a 4hours, $15 a month is still good value even for me if I only got to play ~2h a day.

I'm playing FF14 more than he ever would WoW, so is $15 worth it for me? Totally.

And like I said before, FF14 have an absurd amount of content. If you complain about FF14 doesn't have enough content, I would like to ask can you cite me example of an MMO that has more. Without a point of reference it's hard to judge whether the complain is valid, or just people can't never have enough.

The biggest limiter to this game isn't the amount of content, it's the people who refuse to play it because they view this game as a "cheap girlfriend". They plow through the story and the raids, and then go play something else. But the worst part? Those exact same people spend hours of their time extolling on forums like this one about how great FFXIV is BECAUSE it has no gameplay. Many of them unsub and tell others to do the same, as you can see in this thread. Out of some kind of twisted "love" for the game!

The remainder of us who long to continue playing have no one to queue with. Our FCs become ghost towns, our friends never log in, queues get longer and longer, and PF becomes deserted. New players, like OP, never get exposed to some of the more obscure content.

Perhaps it's best for us to adjust to see this game as a "cheap girlfriend"--not because of the game itself, but because that's how other players want to see it. They don't see FFXIV as an equal to something like WoW. Just some "side hoe". Perhaps that's what it means to be cheap.

Idk I still log in daily and haven’t finished most of the side content because my hobby is standing in front of crystal mommy all over the world flaunting my glams.

I know right? And bastard still doesn’t allow me to wear hats to be even more fashionable. One sided love is not glamorous.

With XIV, you have more options for how often you want to check in, whether you play for a bit every time a major patch drops or every time an expansion drops.

No one has ever said "please give us less content". If anything, people have asked for things to be a little spread out so it's not everything all at once, hence the .x5 patches. Now we're starting to play around with the idea of delaying savage for a week so the hardcore raiders can enjoy the rest of what a patch has to offer and have some prep time before they dive in.

Service costs: They charge the same as competitors in and out of the genre. One can find more value in a month of an MMO than a month of netflix or hulu.

Online store with purely optional items: racial issues aside (which are being worked on), why are people still crying about this?

    Look Genshin Impact for example.

One of their major events consists of exploring an entire new zone/map for limited time with unique quests/stories and rewards.
Sometimes they release events that consist of expanding the lore and adds game mechanics
If you don't log in frequently you may get overwhelmed with the amount of content, you can do for free.
Sometimes you are in a hurry because there are 2-3 major events stacked in your log.
They compensate players for bugs and maintenances.

    vs

1 major update ever 3-4 months that consists of 3 hours of MSQ (mostly cutscenes/text )
    1 trial
1 Dungeon ( now that mobs don't even give you exp/gils they are just there for make the dungeon last 15 minutes instead of 5)
    1 raid or sometimes nothing.
1 late event or sometimes nothing at all ( basically recycle the same event from years ago but now you talk to a different npc ; -> go to a - >b - > a (again) -> here is your reward see ya next year)
everything done in less than 3 days if you play even in the most casual way.
Just look we got again the same moogle tomes .. I'm so hype to pay 15 usd again and farm CT raids for 2304924238490230420480984579385 time and get mounts that I can't use on cities(even new ones like old sharlayan) because devs refuses to update old zones or improve major cities.

Raiding its ok I guess if you actually care about farming the same gear that you already own with normal tomes but +10 item level and dyable.
