Playing an expansion as current content has been a lacklustre MMO experience

Ive been saying for a while this game lacks midcore content especially in the newer expansions... Shb felt terrible until 5.55 which was when all of bozja was out and felt like a complete experience but before that bozja was short and lackluster... This expansion is going through the same route but with a bit more content after wait it seems.

It sounds like the best solution for you is to just come back for the .5 patch and catch up on everything and get the full build up to the next expansion.

We're really at that part in the game's life where we have people saying "the best part of XIV is not playing it"

We've been there since the launch of FFXI, where the launcher still has a message encouraging players to take breaks. The best part of enjoying anything is to do so in moderation. Everything gets tired and old when you keep forcing yourself to do it. Are you an adult capable of independent thought or are you a slave to capitalism and social media pressure?

Wow, people are really defending the cash shop in a game with a monthly fee? Eh, that's about right. It happened in EQ1/2, it happened in WoW, it happened in just about every nexion game, it happ- You know what, i'm tired of watching repeat episodes, whatever happens will happen and no amount of arguing with company zealots will stop it. I just wish SE would finally stop beating around the bush and just go crazy with the cash shop. I mean, they are more or less there. They might as well add power (which you can argue that we are already there by the fact you can pay to skip all but 10 levels of progress and just buy a skip for the story) and call it a day.

Many people deeply cherish this aspect of FFXIV. “Midcore” content keeps people locked in to the game, like in WoW (our least favorite MMO). Normal mode is a snooze after the first week, and savage only requires an hour a week for reclears. There’s not much in-game to progress with…

And that’s a GOOD thing. It lets us play other games. We have a ton of games coming out this season, and the last thing we want to play is FFXIV. Let’s face it, this game is a bit like FFXIII. The story is good, boss battles and music are fancy, but once you’re done? You put it down. The ability to play other games is a major draw to FFXIV. We pay $13/month for the ability to play any other game that we want. WoW forces you to play. You pay $15/month to be taken away from your other games, from your friends on Discord, from everything else that you care about.

Yoshida is a family man and he understands the value of our time. With the “drought” (I call it a life-enhancement period), we can explore new hobbies, have time for the spouse and kids, and play other video games. If anything, I hope 6.3 gets pushed back so we have more time to do things that we actually enjoy.

The vast majority of MMOs let you play other games, even WoW does. I don't buy the idea that you can't enjoy other games while playing any MMO that isn't XIV because you absolutely can do it. Sure, you're always going to have peaks and troughs in the content cycle but there's a massive drop off in XIV that doesn't even justify a subscription IMHO.

I also dislike Yoshi-P's "go play other games" comment being used as a get out of jail free card for any criticism of the game, especially when you question the complete lack of "midcore" content. Wanting a bit more to do isn't a bad thing and I find the idea of a vacuum between casual and hardcore completely laughable.

Honestly, if that's how they want to act then they can take their ball and go home and I can save some money. Games as a service was a mistake.

It's hard to enjoy anything other than the current expansion content of other games because the FOMO is real elsewhere. If you're not in there for the first month or so, you're out of luck later on. Just look at how the scheduling has lined up. Anyone that's taking a break right now is going to be on WoW for December and then they'll jump back for 6.3. It's easier to come and go here than it is elsewhere.

Yoshi's comment isn't a get out of jail free card, but a reality check. They cannot and will not be able to keep up with unrealistic demands. The game is there to enjoy at your leisure, not be a life partner.

It's a business, not a charity. Make fun all you want. You're the one that's getting bent out of shape over something that has no real negative impact on your experience. The shop is harmless because I personally don't need to engage with it to enjoy / succeed in the game.
