Those of us with more time available to play tend to severely overestimate how much time the average player is online. Someone with less time to play isn't going to want to waste it making an alt when there are still things to do on their main.
While I understand why many players have gone the solo FC route to get a house and don't blame them for doing so, players shouldn't feel forced into it for the sake of getting a house.
With the addition of the new NA data center, no one on NA should feel forced to make an alt right now. You can move your main to get a house and still play with your NA friends. Someone posted the current number of available plots on Dynamis in the Dynamis DC Discord the other day.
Seraph: 105 plots
Hali: 1225 plots
Mari: 1538 plots
Maduin: 1649 plots
Seraph will almost certainly be sold out by the end of current lottery. Only 3 of those plots don't have a bid yet but with one more day left to enter, someone is bound to place an entry on them. The sole medium has over 100 entries, and the smalls are averaging about 10 entries each. We don't know how many of those are entries to relocate but at a guess, there will probably be about 800 players who want but couldn't get a house. Guess that's what happens when you pick a world because you think it has the best name.
The other 3 worlds have less than 100 plots each with entries so far this round. A couple of larges are left but should sell. There are plenty of mediums with no bids, mostly in Goblet.
That means that when the next lottery period starts on the 1st (which will be the first lottery for FCs formed the week Dynamis opened), there will still be about 4000 houses available.
And yet people will sit here in the forums, continuing to complain. Little wonder that those serious about housing who want more houses end up making alts to buy more houses. Those without a house that claim they want a house aren't making an effort to get what's available so what's available is left for the taking by those willing to take advantage of the opportunity.
The alternative is people clicking on a placecard for 2 days, and it causes an additional expense to multiple bots, as far as I know you need to have an actual paid account to do and further more 30 days of play?

The new system is good in theory, except when EVERY PLOT ON HALICARNASSUS GOES TO PEOPLE WHO SNIPED IN ON THE LAST SECOND and they also don't even let you re-opt to an uncontested plot when someone decides they must have yours in particular.
Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating when it happens, it makes me wonder if those people are actually after a house or are just trolls who go after the 1 house with a bid in the area. First Lottery of the new worlds I had the only bid for about a day and lost to #2 because someone came by and sniped it at the last minute, while all the plots around had no bids. I didn't think random smalls in lavender beds were so hotly contested either.
Well,
I'm not going to rehash my original point in detail; but there is now MORE then enough housing in the data-centers.
+But there is no demolition.
+People own multiple homes.
+People only bid on the "perfect" house
Remove those 2 factors and there is a glut of housing available.
If Square insists on using the lotto system then I would ask that they put in a exponential bid system.
If you lose; your volume of bids "doubles" until it hits a "cap" like say 32 or 64. This protection only applies to 1 character. Once triggered other characters on the same account will not gain this buff. The buff expires after a full housing lotto duration - so if you think "I will only bid when I got a good chance to loose so I can bid on the perfect plot" your SOL.
Lose 1 bid - you now get 2 entrys, again get 4 and so on.
If no plots are available your buff is extended.
This means people who have been trying for a house for months will have a far greater chance at winning then someone who boosted a alt on your server to try and grab up homes to sell.
I mean....if someone wins and chooses to pass on collecting the house; does it go to the next person (as it should) or just return to the pool for next bid...if its the latter; then a rich person willing to eat the penalty could really punish folks and just lock down the plot for months.Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating when it happens, it makes me wonder if those people are actually after a house or are just trolls who go after the 1 house with a bid in the area. It's unfortunate, but a lot of people wait to the last second to try to make sure they bid on something with the best chance for them to win. It's not a conspiracy. Had a friend end up with that issue, though thankfully he won his. Someone else I know lost out to a last minute bidder. It sucks, but it is what it is.
Can't sell personal houses. So that point is moot.Well,

Technically you can - I have no doubt RMTers are selling boosted toons and a name change/fanta.
Furthermore the topic covers more then personal homes; as the exploitation of personal FC's has resulted is some owning entire wards.
