Debatable on the first one, especially with the legacy servers. I usually only see around 200-300 people active during prime time on Treebeard, Shadowfax is a bit more. Either way, they have houses just sitting there waiting to be taken.

I also don't think introducing paid wards or upkeep is going to help the situation either because you can easily cheese their premium system to have multiple houses in a ward. I literally have five.

After the game hits 1,500 active players (I think it is 1,500?), it generates a new layer, so the 'online count' will show just a few dozen to a couple of hundred people online.

Last night, the EU server I am on had about 1,000 active at 11pm. Then i was shunted off into a different layer when I entered Bree and it went down to 27. Signed out, and back up to 900.

You can wander around the main cities of the legacy servers and see how many people are active based on that. They're ghost towns. I literally play on them. World chats are quiet a lot of the time too.

Outside of Arkenstone, Brandywine, Crickhollow and Evernight...the game really doesn't have that big of a playerbase anymore.

The last figures were 86,000 monthly active (or thereabouts). That is a pretty substantial player base.

No, I am not.

The comparison was that "if an older game can accomplish this, why can't a newer game?".

Sure, the player counts are different, but server tech is much, much improved from when LOTRO was in its prime.

But, as always, you are being combative. People only need to look at your post history to see that you are a little putrid worm.

I don't think they are comparable and I say this as someone who has played lotro for years and loves the game. As other's said the game's population is much lower than FFXIV's, but also houses just don't offer as much customization.

I have a house in Thorin's Hall. It is a small house (for those who don't know they have small, medium, and large houses same as us) and the max items I can put in it is around 27. Newer housing areas like Erebor have larger caps with it ranging from 100-200 items depending on the size of the house.

They have very specific areas you can put items. I can put one "wall item" on this particular wall, and you cannot adjust its position as it just snaps to it. Every other furniture item works that way. You can only place certain items in certain places and is very limiting. Items can be placed in your yard as well, but you cannot change the outside structure of your house. All Thorin Hall smalls will look the same. All West Rohan mediums will look the same. It is a very dated housing system which is to be expected.

I'm no game developer but I imagine more complexity and customization does come with some sort of cost to system recourses.
