This is not meant to fix RMT. They're doing this to keep track of suspicous ongoing RMT activities.
Also the RMT is not limited to resale, as suggested by the person you responded to, but the exploits of stolen credit card information.

These are all mentioned in official announcement.

Though I personally don't want cash shop to be in the game, I do agree with the bad design on mogstation. Moreover, I think the design of every official webiste under Square Enix is kinda terrible. Not to mention the notorious sign-up process.

It's not that hard to understand that a company would never prohibit any monetization options they definitely profit from for no reason. But people act here like SE did it just out of spite for players and gave no reason at all. While uh...they did actually talk about it which people completely ignore here. It's ofc not the best fix for the problem but it is a fairly decent one for the time being before it caused even much greater harm with all the RMT going on.

There's a difference between speculation and proclamation. Firemage was making a proclamation, which isn't what you are talking about. It's fine to make reasonable speculations and discuss them.

Daybreak (formerly SOE) has alt currency and they have worse restrictions (You can't send anything at all), so it's actually reasonable to speculate this is how things will be. Sometimes, in order to look out for the customer, some things have to be taken away because too many can't take the time to think "is this smart, safe or wise to do?"

I have friend that insists on handing out gifts and it didn't take her very long to figure out an alternative. Other folks can do the same.

Watch a flood of gifting service phishing scams that promise to bypass the gifting restrictions showing up in the next month - and players still falling for them despite what SE has posted.

If they will fall for the 20% off Mogstation items scam, they'll fall for anything.

I agree, as much as WoW has it's problems, at least regarding the shop they are very much on top of it, the shop is smooth and not as archaic as FFXIV's, and also it's in the game as well

We can hope that this has been the breaking point that forces SE to bring their online stores into the 21st century.
