I went to Ul'dah to turn in grand company credits and opened shout chat against my better judgment. Literally all of it was just some guys from Aether slinging shit at each other; and then some guy from Coeurl would join in to be like "why yes, I also love dead baby jokes teehee." Imagine being a Balmunger who wants to RP in Ul'dah and you're basically crowded out by Traveling onlookers, and then having to hear that we won't get transcontinental DC travel because "SE cares about community culture"
I agree with that except World Visit also caused that to happen. When World Visit came out, everyone came to visit Balmung and congested it, because they wanted to see the famous tourist destination of the Quicksand and were disappointed and bored when they found out nothing interesting happened. But I have to point out that Ul'dah chat on Balmung was always like that even when nobody could visit. Those sort of jokes are exactly what I would see all the time.

The greater point that you are making that SE didn't care about mixing cultures of worlds when we got the World Visit capabilities we already have, is exactly why I think SE shouldn't care for cross-region travel. When World Visit started, people were xenophobic toward people from other worlds and constantly tried to tell us to go back to our worlds, but over time they got used to it and it's uncommon now. JP may not like it but they would get used to it.

People can already play on JP worlds by making a new character and I've met plenty of people transferring to JP worlds who weren't previously on one, so the cultures mix already and the only way to stop it is to prevent people with IPs and cards not located in Japan from playing there.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I joined after world-travel was released, so I didn't want to speak on a subject I hadn't experienced personally. But yeah, same logic applies. They legit don't care about screwing with a world's culture. Whenever I see the devs talk about world culture, 9 times out of 10 they're referring to the Japanese datacenters and it's just long-winded coded language that boils down to "we really don't want English speakers in our PFs" which imo is understandable due to communication barriers and differences in play preferences, but I bet if you told the devs that Mateus has a strong RP presence, they'd look at you like you just achieved human flight. The focus is always myopic. It's not really ideal.

No idea where I'm going with this. Basically I wouldn't be surprised if they found some long-winded mental gymastics explanation for allowing travel to NA/EU/OCE and keeping Japan separate.
