I mean, it was and still is the only way to get Stormblood's relics. Of course it was popular back in its day. Whether it was actually any fun or not will largely depend on who you ask. Personally, I hated it from start to finish both my first and second time through, but I loved Bozja due to being able to hop in and out of those areas on a whim and still being able to make meaningful progress.

Eureka is better now than it has ever been. The Echo is a big part of that, making it so that you can actually reliably level and explore without going insane. If we were to get more content with the same difficulty it is held at now, I'd be fine with it.

Oh, and the Challenge Log. God bless the challenge log, especially at lower levels.

Imo Bozja also suffers for having too many wandering monsters with that do not give that much and do not help spawning fates.

I have never seen people trying to chain monsters, there are whole small areas that nobody do unless there is a star one.

No one farms IV or V rank monsters, it is either garlean robots or skirnishes/CE

I loved them both, Eureka and Bozja. Overall I think they were pretty successful. Not excited for Mandeville given there are no open world zones like either of them. If it's tomestones and running old content it won't be fun for me. I'm hoping there will be more we will see.

    And again.

All that garbage I left FFXI for, I happily leave behind me now that I've finished Eureka by slow challenge grind and a grueling manual organization of an entire raid run.

The only reason I found (personal experience) that people were talking was because there was nothing else to do aside from ride the NM train over and over, and pre-challenge you could do little to nothing to progress solo unless you could find an active instance. Then I'd get flattened by some arbitrarily different aggro mechanic going off or someone literally griefing via train mechanics, and have to lie there and beg for a res (which admittedly was usually pretty generously given).

So while I understand nostalgia, I think a lot of people don't understand how many people left FFXI for the exact mechanics Eureka sought to bring back. People only did it because of the rewards..and once the majority of the playerbase had them, the zones emptied the heck out.

Whoopdie do, that weapon you wasted a bunch of time on is BiS for like a week. Putting them behind Manderville quests was just the icing on the cake.

I might've considered going all in on them anyway if we'd gotten another Eureka. Even Bozja was... well, Bozja was okay, at least. I might've gone for another Bozja-type deal too, albeit not with anywhere near the same interest as I might've had for something even remotely close to Eureka.
What? You don't think spending 1500 tomestones is fun?

I remember trying Eureka the first time it got out, I basically had to stay in the starting area, killing the same enemies and each taking at least 2-3 minute until I gave up 3-4 hours later (which only gave me like, 6 or 7 levels). Had no fun at all.
Same for Bozja, except I lasted 30 minutes before I quit.

The entire game being like FFXI or similar MMOs isn't wise, because they have not been conducive to a healthy lifestyle and have made you grind a ridiculous amount and spend huge amounts of time traveling, forming groups, doing fetch quests and suffering lots of RNG and anything else they can do to make you spend all day to get something done. When I started this game and saw that I only had to kill 3 enemies for quests, I was blown away. Teleporting isn't a very immersive way to travel but most of the time you probably aren't roleplaying and don't want to RP travel everywhere.

But I like having an isolated area like that which forces you not to spend too long by actually kicking you out after 3 hours. This was always my stopping point. It was time to eat. I did my Eureka relic casually spending a few sessions of 3 hours per area when they were new. That's a few nights total in each eureka area, so it wasn't actually that bad unless you had extremely limited time or were grinding all the relics, minions and mounts without breaks.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

You are welcome to whatever you enjoy, however the idea that "a few people complained so they abandoned it" is silly. The zone IS empty except for farmy bots now. People COULD have kept running the stuff for drops or because they REALLY liked the gameplay.. but they didn't and they don't. A lot of people ask where I got my elemental armor and when I mention eureka they immediately go "oh.. it's nice though!". The grind is boring for a lot of people and the added hazards and "difficulty" are a huge deterrent to many. Enough that SE has basically abandoned it to the gil farmers.

You might claim it would do better if they supported it.. and maybe if they'd continued it'd be a little livelier. But in general the FFXIV playerbase isn't about that old school punishment and danger.

Man oh man what a night... I was in another party, and I noticed a dps job, not sure which, was getting killed by a monster. I provoked the monster off him and was able to save him. I added him to my party and we all exped some more!

I got a thank you for saving his life lol. I have nothing but good things to say so far about this content. I love how there's more interaction in that dangerous world!
